Exciting Opportunities Await Young Hunters in Sardis!

Attention, all young outdoor enthusiasts! If you’ve been itching for a chance to hone your hunting skills, then mark your calendars for February 1, 2025. That’s right! The US Army Corps of Engineers is hosting a thrilling youth squirrel hunt at the beautiful Sardis Lake, located in the heart of Mississippi.

What’s Happening?

The event is set to take place in the serene Sardis Waterfowl Refuge, which is not only a fantastic setting for the hunt but also a great opportunity for young adventurers to connect with nature. This special occasion is designed to help experienced small game hunters pass on their knowledge and passion for hunting to the next generation. Teaching proper hunting techniques and ethics to youth aged 10 to 15 is the primary goal, and what better way to do that than through a hands-on experience?

How to Be Part of This Adventure

Excited about the prospect? Great! Only a select group of 12 young hunters will be chosen from the total applications submitted before the drawing date. To ensure your spot, be sure to submit your application by 3 p.m. on January 20, 2025. Keep in mind that each participant must be accompanied by an adult who is at least 21 years old, making it a fantastic bonding experience for families!

Guidelines for Participation

All participants must follow State and Federal small game hunting regulations that apply to their age. It’s recommended that the accompanying adult has a solid understanding of these regulations to ensure a safe and enjoyable hunting experience. The hunt is set to be a Shotgun ONLY event, so it’s important to keep that in mind while preparing to join in the fun.

What to Bring

Now, if you’re worried about what to pack, there’s no need to stress! Young hunters drawn for the event are required to bring only proper clothing. All other essentials, such as hunting dogs, weapons, and ammunition, will be provided by the organizers. Furthermore, participants will be placed in small groups and will have the guidance of an experienced hunting mentor. How cool is that?
