Hey there, Oxford residents! We have some pretty exciting updates about the ongoing construction of the West Oxford Loop extended project. If you’ve been driving around town lately, you might have seen some changes happening and wondered what’s going on. Well, let’s dive into the details!
The second phase of the West Oxford Loop project is well underway. Happy to share that most of the initial clearing has been completed for the three-mile road that will connect College Hill Road to Industrial Park Road. It’s a significant step as this upcoming road will help improve connectivity throughout our lovely area.
To jog your memory, the first phase of the project was completed not too long ago. It successfully connected West Oxford Loop to College Hill, which was then named the George G. “Pat” Patterson Parkway. It’s great to see how this initiative is blossoming and making our daily commutes a bit smoother.
Brent Larson, our Lafayette County Supervisor and Board President, is clearly pumped about the rapid progress. “They’re moving fast,” he mentioned enthusiastically, highlighting that the anticipated completion date for this new stretch of road is early summer in 2025. It’s fantastic to think we won’t have to wait too long to see the full impact of this project!
This project isn’t just a solo effort; it’s a collaborative endeavor among various stakeholders including the city of Oxford, Lafayette County, and the Mississippi Department of Transportation. By working together, they’re striving to enhance interconnectivity in our region and pave the way for better traffic flow.
What’s even more exciting? The grand plan is to complete the last phase which will establish a connection between Highway 6 West and Highway 7 North. This connection has been a part of Oxford and Lafayette County’s long-term plans for over two decades, making it all the more special as we see it come to fruition. The entire project stands at a budget of about $7 million, but the benefits it will provide are priceless!
As the construction continues, you might experience a few detours here and there, but it’s all for the greater good. Just think about the ease and efficiency this new road will offer once it’s complete. Fewer traffic jams and smoother travels will soon be an everyday reality as our community welcomes these vital updates.
So how are you feeling about all these changes? Are you excited about the future of transportation in Oxford? Don’t hesitate to share your thoughts or any questions you might have about the project. Community input is essential in making this vision a success. Plus, staying informed can help make your daily travels easier and more enjoyable.
As we continue to see the progress on the West Oxford Loop project, let’s keep our fingers crossed for on-time completion and great results ahead!
Catch you all on the road, and let’s make the most out of this summer by cooperating with the construction teams and supporting our local initiatives. Together, we can create a brighter and better-connected future for Oxford!
