Oxford is buzzing with excitement as Proud Larry’s prepares to welcome the post-punk and goth-rock band Vision Video on April 5. If you’re in the mood for some amazing live music, this is the place to be!
The night will kick off at 9 p.m. with a fabulous punk drag show featuring the talented Vivica Vanity as the opening act. If you’re a lover of vibrant performances and fun, you won’t want to miss what Vivica and her crew have in store. Tickets for this unique experience are available online for just $15. Grab them while you can, as this is the perfect opportunity to have a memorable night out.
Taking the stage later in the evening, Vision Video is led by frontman Dusty Gannon, a native of Athens, Georgia, who plays guitar and bass. Joining him are keyboard player Angelica Avila from Bakersfield, California, and drummer Ryan Houchens from Savannah, Georgia. Gannon started the band as a creative outlet to share his experiences and feelings—drawing from his time as an Army infantry officer and a paramedic firefighter. With his vision for the band, he aims to connect with fans through themes of personal struggles and societal issues.
Gannon has described their upcoming performance as meaningful, fun, and filled with energy. He hopes that everyone who attends gains a valuable experience and finds themselves dancing along to the tunes.
So what can you expect from the setlist? Vision Video’s repertoire includes exciting tracks like “Dead Gods,” “Normalized,” and “Stay.” If you’re a fan of music that blends edgy themes with captivating melodies, you are in for a treat!
Proud Larry’s co-owner, Scott Caradine, opened the venue back in April 1993 with his wife Lisa. Known for showcasing diverse artists with real integrity across various genres, Caradine has made sure that both the opening and headlining acts are carefully picked for their impactful messages. He is excited about Vision Video’s heavy ‘80s rock influence, which aligns perfectly with the venue’s mission to provide unique performances to the community.
As a passionate advocate for queer communities, Vivica Vanity has been performing drag for almost three years. She has dedicated her performance to inspire others and create a more vibrant LGBTQ+ scene in Oxford. During the show, audiences will be treated to an array of new drag talents, including Felicity Fox, Fizzy Pop, Nota Maeto, Mad Madame Gothicc, and Rug Rat. It promises to be a remarkable showcase of creativity and artistry.
Local students are already buzzing about the event. Roman Wells, a sophomore psychology major, and McKenley Coleman, a sophomore marketing major, both recognize the significance of drag as a powerful art form and appreciate the revival of post-punk vibes in music. Both students share a love for the inclusive atmosphere that events like this bring.
With all this excitement in the air, this is one show you definitely do not want to miss! Mark your calendars, grab your friends, and prepare for a night of great music, lively performances, and a sense of community at Proud Larry’s on April 5th.
