The starting line for this emotional journey is right at the Federal Courthouse on Jackson Avenue East, located right on the lovely Square in Oxford. Glamorous weather permitting, runners will make their way down Ninth Street to University Avenue, and take a meaningful route that encompasses not only the heart of our community but also the cherished grounds of the University of Mississippi. From there, the runners will head over to the Lyceum on campus, a perfect spot for a little reflection before making the return trip back to the courthouse.

A Growing Tradition

Now entering its ninth year, the USMS Fallen Heroes Honor Run started as a humble initiative by the Eastern District of Missouri but has blossomed into a national affair. In 2024 alone, an impressive 83 districts took part in the event, signifying a powerful sentiment that transcends local boundaries. This run is much more than just a physical challenge; it stands as a robust reminder of the courage and commitment of those who paid the ultimate price in service to their communities.

Why We Run

At the heart of the event is a profound tribute to Deputy United States Marshal Josie Wells. Josie tragically lost her life on March 10, 2015, while executing an arrest warrant in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Each footstep taken during the Honor Run serves as a reminder of her bravery, along with countless other officers who have fallen in the line of duty. As families of these fallen officers join in, their presence is a moving testament to the unwavering support for law enforcement in Mississippi and beyond.
