With an array of on-campus dining options, which now includes flustered Starship robots, late-night sandwich runs, and caffeinated teas, the University of Mississippi has been making a mark with its continuous evolution of dining choices. The university’s focus on local and community partnerships has even extended to food sourcing, leading to ethical whole-animal purchasing from nearby farms.
Rebel Market, situated at an ideal location near the J.D. Williams Library and the Phi Mu Fountain, serves as UM’s principal dining hall. The Dish, another major dining hall on campus, is comfortably located on the bottom floor of Residential College South. Furthermore, scattered across the campus are Provisions on Demand Markets catering to those late-night snack cravings with an array of snacks and drinks on offer. Minor Hall, a residential hall has two restaurants: Everbowl and Jimmy John’s, which serve until midnight, unlike the other food services which usually wrap up by 8 or 9 P.M.
One lesser-known feature in the campus’s culinary landscape is The Grill, located on Manning Way. Overlooking an indoor football field, it not only offers free meals to student-athletes but is also open to other students. Known for its quality food, it has been described by students as having healthier options than some of the other dining services.
Among the most frequented dining spots are the establishments within the student union food court. With a lineup boasting Chick-fil-A, McAlister’s Deli, Blenz Bowls, Qdoba and, Panda Express, there is something for everyone. To add to the convenience, these restaurants have inculcated Grubhub mobile orders into their systems, proving to be a game changer in rush hours.
Bringing variation to the food scene on campus are multiple food trucks such as The Farmstand, G&G’s Fry Co., Hotbox Hibachi and most popularly, Yum Yum Thai that moves around the campus throughout the day. Catering to the beverage needs, the campus houses two Starbucks locations in Coulter Hall and the J.D. Williams Library which, too, are available for the Starship delivery services.
While UM’s dining options are already impressive, the university shows no signs of slowing down. The plan for the coming years foresees an evolution of the program with continued emphasis on welcoming local businesses to campus. This energetic approach to diversifying dining choices ensures students can look forward to an ever-evolving, exciting dining scene on campus.
