Oxford, Mississippi – Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi is honoring a significant milestone: the 25th anniversary of its Sleep Disorder Center. Established in May 1999, the center has been at the forefront of diagnosing and treating various sleep-related issues for over two decades.
Each year, the center conducts more than 5,000 sleep studies across Baptist’s network, addressing over 80 different sleep disorders. These disorders include common issues like obstructive sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome, and insomnia, as well as more complex conditions such as narcolepsy and periodic limb movement disorder.
Research highlights that chronic sleep deprivation can lead to various health problems, including diabetes, heart disease, and obesity. Sleep is essential for overall well-being and affects nearly every aspect of our daily lives.
“Sleep affects everything we do in our daily lives,” said Dr. Jeffery Evans, the medical director of the Baptist Sleep Disorder Center in Oxford. “Twenty-five years is a huge milestone. I’m very proud of our team and their dedication to providing this crucial care to our community.”
Baptist’s Sleep Disorders Centers utilize advanced digital technology along with highly trained technicians to perform in-depth tests ranging from overnight polysomnographic monitoring to daytime nap testing. Each assessment is tailored to the unique needs of the patient, ensuring an accurate diagnosis and effective treatment plan.
Brian Welton, CEO and administrator of Baptist North Mississippi, expressed his appreciation saying, “Congratulations to the Baptist Sleep Center for this significant anniversary. This is incredibly important work, and we couldn’t do it without Dr. Evans and his team.”
As part of their anniversary celebration, the center is also focusing on increasing community awareness about the importance of sleep health. Many people overlook the impact that improper sleep can have on their overall health and quality of life.
It is vital for individuals to recognize the signs of sleep disorders and seek help if they are experiencing issues such as prolonged insomnia, frequent restlessness during the night, or excessive daytime sleepiness. Baptist’s Sleep Disorder Center stands ready to assist those in need with their advanced care and resources.
Looking forward, the Sleep Disorder Center plans to continue its mission of providing quality care while exploring the latest advancements in sleep medicine. The team is committed to keeping up with emerging technologies and research, ensuring that they remain leaders in sleep health.
Dr. Evans and his staff encourage the community to prioritize their sleep and consider consulting with professionals if they suspect they may have a sleep disorder.
As Baptist North Mississippi reflects on its past 25 years, it remains focused on improving the lives of those in the Oxford area through better sleep health. The team’s dedication and the center’s proven track record highlight the essential role that quality sleep plays in a healthy lifestyle.
