Sponsor Our ArticlesThe Oxford City Board of Aldermen has approved a contract for the construction of a new roundabout at mTrade Park. Awarded to local company M & N Excavators for $312,145, this project aims to alleviate traffic congestion in the area. Roundabouts are becoming increasingly popular for improving traffic flow, and this new addition is strategically placed near a soccer field complex and Quad ‘A’. More enhancements to the city’s roadways are on the horizon as Oxford prioritizes public safety and traffic efficiency.
Exciting news for the folks living in Oxford, Mississippi! The city’s Board of Aldermen recently gathered and made a big decision that promises to improve traffic flow at mTrade Park. On January 24, 2025, they awarded a contract for a new roundabout that will help alleviate some traffic congestion in the area – and we all know how much of a headache that can be.
So why a roundabout, you ask? Well, it turns out that roundabouts have been popping up more frequently in cities these days. They’re a smoother way to get around, making traffic flow much better than the traditional stop-sign or traffic light setups. This particular roundabout will be right at the intersection between the popular soccer field complex and Quad “A”. It’s conveniently located just a hop west of McAlexander Drive, making it a prime spot for improving traffic movement at mTrade Park.
On January 16, 2025, the city opened up the bids for the project, and local company M & N Excavators came out on top with an offer of $312,145. This was some fantastic news for the city, especially since the engineer’s estimate for the project was $377,120. That means the city will save over $64,000 on this project! Talk about a smart financial decision!
Two other companies threw their hats in the ring as well. Bluff City Construction submitted a bid of $349,846, and J.M. Duncan had a much higher bid at $511,182. But M & N Excavators sealed the deal with their competitive offer, keeping it local and ensuring that the project stays within budget.
Oxford has been making strides to enhance their roadways, and this new roundabout is just one of the many improvements being put in place. The city has previously received funding for similar traffic enhancement projects, prioritizing both safety and efficiency for its residents and visitors alike.
As our city grows and more people flock to mTrade Park for various events—think soccer tournaments, family outings, and community events—keeping traffic under control becomes increasingly important. The addition of this roundabout will not only address current traffic concerns but is also a proactive way to handle future growth.
Now, for those eager to hear about when construction will kick off, that part is still up in the air! As of now, the construction timeline and completion date have not been specified. But rest assured, the city is excited about this improvement, and updates are sure to come.
In a world where traffic can feel overwhelming at times, it’s refreshing to see cities like Oxford taking practical steps to enhance public safety and smooth out the flow of vehicles. With multiple roundabouts already in place, this addition will only build on the positive changes happening in our beloved city.
As we await further details about the roundabout project, there’s a sense of anticipation in the air. Fingers crossed for a speedy construction timeline so all of us can enjoy a safer, more efficient travel experience around mTrade Park!
