Vicksburg’s River Belles Shine Bright in Oxford

In an exciting display of skill and teamwork, the 2014 River Belles from Vicksburg had an action-packed weekend in Oxford, Mississippi, during the thrilling “Battle for the Square” tournament. With a combination of heart and determination, this outstanding group of young athletes managed to bring home the coveted gold medal after winning all four of their matches. What an incredible achievement!

The Winning Team

The River Belles, who are part of the Vicksburg Soccer Organization, are guided by a passionate coaching staff consisting of Daniel Sumerall, Katie Feibelman, and Tony Davidson. The team features a roster of talented players, including:

  • Jaycee Davidson
  • Laney Barfield
  • Emma Sumerall
  • Harper Kate Keen
  • Campbell Tucker
  • Avery Dean
  • Liza Newman
  • Cecilia Feibelman
  • Annalise Henry
  • Caroline Different

Each player brought their unique style and spirit to the game, showing how teamwork can lead to beautiful moments on the field. From impressive goals to outstanding defensive plays, the River Belles truly put on a show for their families, friends, and fans!

The Tournament Highlights

The atmosphere in Oxford was electric as teams from across the region gathered to showcase their talent. The River Belles fueled their victory with a series of strategic plays and powerful performances. Each match strengthened their bond as teammates and raised their spirits with each win.

After triumphing in four consecutive games, the River Belles emerged as champions, securing their spot in the hearts of Vicksburg’s sports community. The girls’ hard work and dedication paid off—the gold medal was not just a piece of metal; it represented everything they had worked for this season!

Vicksburg’s Sporting Spirit

In addition to the River Belles’ remarkable success, the sports scene in Vicksburg continues to make waves! Just last Friday, the Port Gibson high school football team delivered an unforgettable performance by defeating Wilkinson County with a smashing score of 39-6. Such exciting moments remind everyone of the strong sporting spirit that thrives in Vicksburg.

And not only is the local soccer scene thriving, but Vicksburg native Sam Semi, Jr. is also making headlines down in Texas. His impressive skills are turning heads, and it looks like he’s on his way to becoming a household name in the Lone Star State. Sam’s success is a proud moment for our community, showing that Vicksburg athletes are competing and excelling at high levels beyond their hometown.

Community Celebration

As the River Belles celebrate their well-deserved victory, along with the accomplishments of other local teams, it’s the perfect time for the Vicksburg community to rally together. Whether it’s cheering on the soccer field or the football field, it’s all about supporting one another in our hometown sports.

The excitement is palpable, and residents are reminding each other of the power of sports to unite and uplift. So, let’s continue to show our support, celebrate our victories, and nurture our local talent! Here’s to the River Belles and all our incredible athletes in Vicksburg!
