In the most recent round of food service inspections, the Mississippi Department of Health found that food venues across Lafayette County have been maintaining impressive standards in food safety and hygiene. Taking place between March 1 and March 31, these inspections encompassed 56 facilities, from restaurants to school cafeterias and even to bars.
Out of the 56 facilities assessed, an impressive 51 received an “A” grade, signifying no critical violations were found during inspection. There were five venues which scored a “B”, indicating they had critical violations which were corrected immediately under supervision, with no additional corrective action required. No facilities received a “C” grade, which means there weren’t any establishments where violations were found but not corrected during the inspections.
The grading system implemented by the Mississippi Department of Health focuses on the identification and resolution of critical violations. An “A” signifies that no such violations were discovered. An establishment with a “B” grade had some violations, but they were rectified during the inspection under the guidance of inspection personnel. A “C” grade means the establishment had some critical violations which were not rectified within the inspection period. These establishments are bound to be re-inspected and rectifications must be made within a stipulated period of ten days.
Among the restaurants that received top marks were Newk’s Express Café on University Avenue, Bramlett Elementary, and Country Club of Oxford. Other notable mentions include Capt. D’s Seafood Restaurant, El Agave Mexican Grill of Oxford, Sonic, Oxford Burger Company, and Toyo Japanese Sushi Bar.
Overall, a series of well-known establishments across Lafayette County were commended for their high food safety standards.
The establishments which received a “B” grade are Casa Mexicana of Oxford, The Grill, Chipotle, The Golf House, and El Charro Mexican Bar and Grill. No further action is necessary for these facilities as they had immediately corrected the issues identified.
The latest inspection results offer a positive overview of food safety practice across Lafayette County. With the majority of facilities receiving top grades for food safety and hygiene, Lafayette patrons can dine out with confidence. This demonstrates the constant vigilance and commitment to safety that these facilities show in their daily operations. The Mississippi Department of Health shared that they will continue to conduct these evaluations to ensure public safety and food hygiene.
