DéLana R. A. Dameron Shares Excerpts from Her Book “Redwood Court” on Thacker Mountain Radio
Oxford, Mississippi, – On Thursday, March 7, 2024, the Powerhouse will be reverberating with the powerful voice of DéLana R. A. Dameron, sharing excerpts from her debut book “Redwood Court” on Thacker Mountain Radio. A poet and storyteller by heart, Dameron has marked her foray into the world of novels with this release, detailing the life and struggles of a Southern Black family in the 1990s, observed through the innocent eyes of the youngest daughter.
Storytelling at its Best: “Redwood Court”
Redwood Court received acclamations for its tender, vivid, and richly complicated storytelling from Jacqueline Woodson, the New York Times best-selling author of Red at the Bone. The protagonist, Mika Tabor, is the youngest in her family, spending much of her time under the watchful eyes of her family and soaking up their tales and trials.
Set in Redwood Court, a cul-de-sac in the all-Black, working-class suburb of Columbia, Mississippi, Mika learns and grows from the experiences of her hardworking parents, her music-loving sister, her grandparents who marked their success buying the house in the 1960s, and the unified community that they are part of.
Through her book, Dameron wants the readers to understand the devastation felt from being unseen and the transformative power of being recognized. With Redwood Court, Dameron celebrates the common Black Americans who worked towards achieving their version of the American dream.
