An Oxford-based woman, Julia Bishop Allen, recently found herself in the hands of law enforcement officers following allegations of causing damage to a vehicle and driving under the influence. Heated emotions spiraled on June 14 at 9:21 p.m. in 390 County Road triggering a distress call to the local law enforcement authorities over an ongoing disturbance.
By the time the deputies arrived at the scene, the suspect, a 24-year-old Allen, had already left the scene. Acting swiftly, the officers managed to locate Allen’s means of transportation. She was subsequently taken into custody and had her handcuffs mounted on the charges of Driving Under the Influence (DUI).
In as much as the DUI charges amounted to a serious legal concern, during the investigative probe, it came to the authorities’ attention that Allen had allegedly caused further havoc in the form of damage to a vehicle at the residence before she took to flight. This discovery further steepened her legal woes by inviting additional charges.
All the committed alleged crimes ultimately led to Allen being transported to Lafayette County Detention Center. Once there, she faced the scale of justice with her charges duly read to her. She stands accused of DUI and felony malicious mischief – a charge rising from the damage she inflicted on the vehicle.
Given the gravity of her allegations and to secure her presence in later court sessions, a bond was charged against her. She will be required to pay $2,500.
As it stands, if convicted, Allen could face hefty fines, loss of her driving licence or even a significant period of confinement for her charges. DUI charges are no laughing matter with ingrained penalties to deter potential offenders from driving under the influence and endangering lives. Further, the additional charge of felony malicious mischief signals the rash decision-making and potential threat Allen poses to others’ property.
Deputies are further appealing to the public to always act responsibly and respect the law. They are urging others to learn from Allen’s predicament and refrain from driving under the influence and causing damage to property. Authorities continue to assert that it is far better to prevent such occurrences than to face the dire legal repercussions after the fact.
