Oxford Senior Named U.S. Presidential Scholar Semifinalist
Exciting news from Oxford, Mississippi as the Department of Education announced earlier today that an Oxford High School senior, Charles Frugé, is one of seven Mississippi students named as 2024 U.S. Presidential Scholars semifinalists.

Frugé’s Inspiring Track Record
Frugé, who previously served on the State Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council, was named a Star Student in March, served as a page for Mississippi Senator Roger Wicker in Washington, D.C. during the fall of 2022, and is an active member of the OHS Students for Alzheimer’s.

Other distinguished semifinalists from Mississippi include Omair Jamil from DeSoto Central High School, Noah Lee and Iris Xue from Mississippi School for Mathematics & Science, Payton Sanders from Pelahatchie Attendance Center, Sydney Smith from Hattiesburg High School and, Kayla Truong from Northwest Rankin High School. These bright individuals were selected from thousands of high potential candidates nationwide.
About the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program
The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was created in 1964 and later expanded to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the arts as well as in career and technical education fields. These outstanding Scholars truly represent excellence in education and hold the promise of greatness in America’s young people. From this pool of incredibly talented semifinalists, 161 students will be selected as 2024 U.S. Presidential Scholars, to be announced in early May. The honorees are then acknowledged during the annual ceremony held in Washington, D.C.
