Oxford Celebrates Groundbreaking Ceremony for Roundabout Oxford RV and Water Resort
Innovative developers and spirited members of the Oxford community came together on the verdant, rolling landscape destined to become the home of the new Roundabout Oxford RV and Water Resort this Friday. The official groundbreaking ceremony marked the inauguration of this visionary venture intended to enhance local tourism and provide a unique recreational hub for the residents.
How it all began
The idea of the resort first germinated while local developer Jay Hughes was engrossed in an unlikely conversation with Dr. Andrew Ross during a routine dental visit last June. The plan was then meticulously cultivated alongside Hughes’ spouse, Cris and Andrew Ross’s wife, Alison. Hughes expressed the team’s ambition to launch the resort before the next year’s first home SEC baseball game in March. He eloquently reflected, “Our goal is to have the first inner tube floating in this lazy river next spring.”
An Ode to Collaboration
The groundbreaking marked not only the first dig into the site located off Highway 6 East and County Road 105 but also symbolized the fruition of a robust collaboration between various stakeholders. Hughes took the occasion to extend his gratitude to a diverse host of contributors; from local and state government officials, designers, architects, as well as his diligent wife and partners. He noted, “We’re the four who dared to dream big and shared a common passion to make this dream a reality and share it with others.”
Facilities and Benefits for the Community
Roundabout Oxford promises to be a game-changer with 150 paved spots for RVs equipped with full connections. The resort pledges to offer a myriad of facilities and activities suited for all ages, from shaded playgrounds, pools, and water slides to a serene yoga/zen garden and a fitness center. A walking trail, bonfire areas, picnic spots, shuffleboard and pickleball courts add to the allure. Amenities such as a business center, a dog park, a hot tub, golf cart rentals, along with well-equipped bathrooms and laundry facilities, are also in the pipeline. It is devised not just as a resort but as a vibrant, inclusive community hub.

Several community stalwarts, including Lafayette County Economic Development Foundation CEO Ryan Miller and Lafayette County Supervisor and Board President Brent Larson shared their optimism during the occasion. Co-founder Dr. Andrew Ross highlighted the collaborative spirit at its core, noting, “It took a lot of people, and a lot of joint effort, and we are grateful for that.”
Onward with Dedication
With the groundbreaking ceremony concluded, Hughes outlined the project’s next steps, which include awarding construction contracts and initiating work on infrastructure developments like a new deceleration turning lane on Highway 6 and a connector road to County Road 105. Rothschild is optimistic about the rigorous work schedule ahead, with different companies coordinating parts of the project and working continuously throughout the summer, fall, and winter.
