Oxford Woman Faces Charges Following Domestic Violence Incident in Tula
Arrest of Dakota Bowen
Investigations by local law enforcement in Oxford recently led to the arrest of a woman allegedly involved in a domestic violence incident. The incident under dispute took place in the Tula community, where officers from the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a distress call on May 27.
Officials were able to ascertain that Dakota Bowen, 27-year-old Oxford resident, was the primary aggressor in an assault against another woman. Following the on-the-scene investigation, officers placed Bowen under arrest for domestic violence simple assault.
Violent Assault with a Deadly Weapon
Further developments revealed that during the assault, Bowen had in her possession a butcher knife. This finding drew on her past felonious conquests, as Bowen had a previous charge of aggravated assault in June of 2016. As such, the suspect was also charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
Bowen was transported to the Lafayette County Detention Center without incident.
About the Legal Proceedings
On May 28, Bowen presented her case before a Justice Court Judge and was granted a $15,000 bond. However, the bond was revoked promptly as Bowen was on probation with the Mississippi Department of Corrections. The Department placed a hold on Bowen due to this violation.
Currently, Bowen is held in the Lafayette County Detention Center.
Previous Violent History
This is not the first encounter Bowen has had with the law. The 27-year-old Oxford local was previously convicted for an aggravated assault in June 2016. The conviction led her to serve an extended probation period under the watchful eye of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
Implications for Domestic Violence Cases
This incident stands as a sobering reminder of the recurring issue of domestic violence in today’s society. Statistics reveal that most incidences of this nature do not receive adequate attention, often due to the reluctance of victims to report such incidents. It is vital for appropriate measures to be taken to ensure the safety and welfare of the victims of domestic violence.
Acknowledging the escalating frequency of occurrences like these, local communities and law enforcement agencies need to continue their vigilance and work even more intensely to safeguard individuals from domestic violence whilst ensuring suitable punitive measures for those found guilty.
