Oxford Ushers in Pride Month with “Chronicle: Pride”
This Saturday, June 1 at 7.30 pm, the Anubis Improv theatre company presents “Chronicle: Pride” at The Powerhouse, marking an ingenious entrance to Pride Month. This refreshingly innovative, melodious storytelling event is gearing up to bedazzle its Oxford audiences.
Shaking up Southern Storytelling
Marrying the potent art of Southern storytelling with the vibrancy of life music, this event is undoubtedly set to become a highlight in Oxford’s cultural landscape. Distinct from Anubis Improv’s usual comedy offerings, “Chronicle: Pride” invites six narrators to share true-to-life tales inspired by the theme of ‘Pride’. This assemblage of timeless narratives, peppered with live music by local songwriter Kyle Kite, is destined to include enlightening, moving, and exhilarating components that will resonate with all attendees.
“When we ran this show in New Orleans years ago, then called Unreliable, we found that something truly magical happened at the intersection of the stories and the music. We’re hoping we can recreate that magic for Oxford,” shares David James Hamilton, the visionary founder of Anubis Improv.
Gathering of Oxford Icons
The inaugural presentation will feature an exciting assembly of well-ornamented and popular Oxonians, who will further enrich the night with their diverse storytelling styles and admiration for the chosen theme. The featured storytellers for the evening are Kaye Bryant, Rebecca Jernigan, Jason T. Plunk, Sha’ Simpson, Jaylin Smith, and Lynn Wells.
Convenient Location and Ticket Availability
The Powerhouse, located at 413 South 14th Street in Oxford, is set to host this storytelling extravaganza, situated conveniently on the corner of University Avenue, with ample parking available in the back near the water tower. Pre-sale tickets for the event are already available online and will also be sold at the door on the day of the event.
