News Summary

The Oxford Police Department has unveiled its new $12 million headquarters, a significant investment designed to enhance operational efficiency and community safety. This state-of-the-art facility can accommodate 131 staff members, including sworn officers, and centralizes operations previously spread across multiple locations. With advanced features such as a training room, victim services area, dispatch center, and secure lobby, the new headquarters represents a commitment to modern law enforcement and better service for the residents of Oxford.

Oxford Welcomes a New Era for its Police Department

In an exciting development for the community, the Oxford Police Department (OPD) has officially opened the doors to its brand spanking new $12 million headquarters at 9 Industrial Park Drive. The big move took place on January 6, 2025, and let me tell you, the new facility is a game changer for the department!

A Major Investment in Safety

This new state-of-the-art building marks a significant milestone for the OPD. The renovation project was no small feat; it was funded through various local, state, and federal resources. A grand total of $7,061,454 came from bond proceeds, while an impressive $6 million was supplied by state contributions through House Bill 1353. Plus, the project benefitted from two allocations under House Bill 603-28, as well as a COPS Grant that helped cover the costs for those shiny new pieces of equipment.

And guess what? The construction process took around a year, which is remarkably swift for a project of this magnitude.

Room for a Team of Heroes

The facility is designed to house 131 employees, including 89 sworn officers. That’s a lot of dedicated folks working under one roof to keep the community safe and sound! Although some minor construction tasks are still underway, the building is operating at full capacity.

Previously, the OPD worked out of multiple locations, but now everything is centralized. That means better communication and collaboration among the officers, making their jobs that much easier.

A Look Inside the New Headquarters

The new 40,000-square-foot building was previously the Oxford Enterprise Center, but you wouldn’t recognize it now! With a hefty renovation cost of $12 million, it’s been transformed into a modern oasis for law enforcement with all the bells and whistles.

Some of the key features include:

  • Training Room: A spacious room accommodating about 75 people, equipped with smart boards and a kitchen for those long training sessions.
  • Victim Services Area: A thoughtfully designed space featuring a family room, conference room, and a child-friendly area complete with a play zone and TV, ensuring comfort for those who need it most.
  • Secure Lobby: With bulletproof glass and a large display screen, this area prioritizes safety while keeping things welcoming.
  • Gym: New fitness equipment has been installed, promoting the physical well-being of officers and supporting their fitness goals.
  • Dispatch Area: Featuring three consoles with adjustable lighting and climate control to help staff perform their duties smoothly.
  • Evidence Room: Designed for maximum efficiency and security, this room has separate sections for different types of evidence, ensuring everything stays organized.
  • Secure Entrance: This is crucial for transporting suspects, keeping them isolated from other areas of the building.
  • Administrative Offices: Conveniently arranged for optimal workflow.
  • Space for Expansion: The building has an additional 10,000 square feet set aside for future growth.

Commitment to the Community

Breck Jones, the public information officer for the OPD, emphasizes that despite the new address, their commitment to serving Oxford remains as strong as ever.

So, what’s next? The new headquarters aims to improve operational efficiency while providing better collaboration among the officers. This is a huge step forward and will offer a solid backbone for the department as it continues to tackle community needs.

Residents are encouraged to swing by and check out the new digs. For those interested in learning more or asking questions, the department can be reached at 662-232-2400. Happy exploring, Oxford!
