Oxford, Mississippi is buzzing with excitement as the city prepares for the upcoming football season.
The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) has kicked off its “Road to Game Day” campaign to ensure fans reach the stadium safely and efficiently. As crowds flock to the town for the first home game of the Ole Miss Rebels against Furman this Saturday, traffic is expected to be quite congested.
To help drivers navigate through the busy roads, MDOT encourages everyone to download their free MDOT Traffic mobile app. This handy app provides real-time information about road conditions and traffic alerts, allowing users to plan their routes better and avoid delays.
In addition to the app, individuals can also access travel information by visiting MDOTtraffic.com, making it easier than ever to stay informed about conditions on the roads.
The fun doesn’t stop at the stadium. On the night before the game, local fans have a chance to attend a concert at the Pavilion. The concert features two former Ole Miss student-athletes, Brett Young and Josh Kelley, alongside the popular Mustache The Band, who will be performing their beloved 90s country tunes.
With the influx of traffic during the football season, MDOT is particularly focused on keeping both drivers and roadside workers safe. Brad White, the executive director of MDOT, emphasized the importance of being cautious while driving.
“Football season is an exciting time in our state, and we want to make sure that everyone makes it to the game safely,” said White. “Put your phone down while driving, slow down in work zones, and call a designated driver if you need one. We can all do these simple things to keep our loved ones and ourselves safe while on the road to cheer on our favorite teams.”
As fans hit the road, MDOT offers several practical tips to ensure everyone remains safe:
