Oxford Film Fest 2024 Draws More Than A Thousand Attendees

In the vibrant city of Oxford, the annual Film Festival, which took place from March 21-24, saw an overwhelming attendance of more than a thousand film enthusiasts. The majority of the films were screened at the renowned Malco Theater, with 80 filmmakers from all over the world, converging in Oxford.

The Festival’s executive director, Matt Wymer, expressed his satisfaction with the turnout and the diversity of filmmakers in attendance. An additional boost was the considerable presence of local filmmakers.

A Festival of Diversity and Innovation

Wymer revealed that this year’s festival introduced a variety of innovative offerings allowing a wide range of genres to be showcased. These included an increased number of comedies along with new categories dedicated to science-fiction and horror.

“We examined what resonated with our community and decided to add more local stories, short films, and entertaining features,” said Wymer. The festival also championed accessibility with various audio captioned screenings and sessions dedicated to individuals with sensory issues.

Making Cinema Accessible

A highlight of this year’s festival was the steps taken towards inclusivity. “We offered screenings for attendees with sensory issues, creating an environment with brighter visuals and softer audio,” Wymer stated. “Ensuring a first-rate audience experience is one of our key objectives.”

Global Cinema Under One Roof

The festival exhibited an exciting mix of 120 narrative and documentary features, experimental films, and music videos. Entailing two full-length documentaries and 27 short projects, all set in Mississippi, the festival proved to be a platform for local talent to express themselves.

Copying the festival’s focus on diversity, several films found their origin from overseas, including the United Kingdom, Australia, China, Iceland, France, and Germany.
