Let’s take a moment to reflect on the careers of these incredible retirees. Charles Ivy dedicated an impressive 36 years to the Environmental Services Department. His journey began on the back of a garbage truck, which marked the start of what would become an illustrious career. Over the years, he transitioned to the grass crew and soon became proficient in operating various heavy vehicles, such as the knuckle boom truck, flatbed, and front-end loader. His hands-on experience and leadership demonstrated a deep understanding of the city’s environmental needs.

Next up is Willie Dennis, a devoted employee with 34 years under his belt. Willie initially joined the department’s grass crew, where he learned the ropes of maintaining the city’s green spaces. Over time, his career evolved, and he ascended to become the main caretaker of the Oxford cemetery. His dedication to preserving the dignity and beauty of the cemetery has undoubtedly touched many lives in the community.

Lastly, we have Delaine Rockette, who contributed 28 years of service. Starting as a chipper operator, Delaine’s career was diverse and dynamic. After five years on the garbage truck and a stint operating at the landfill, he eventually took on challenging roles such as a supervisor at the scale house. With exceptional skills and leadership qualities, he diligently served as a foreman as well, overseeing various operations within the department.
