Exciting Workshops for Local Entrepreneurs in Oxford

Oxford, Mississippi, is buzzing with excitement as the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council and the Oxford-Lafayette County Economic Development Foundation gear up to wrap up the year with two fantastic workshops aimed at supporting local entrepreneurs and small business owners. These final installments of the Big Bad Business series promise to be both inspiring and incredibly beneficial!

Upcoming Workshop: “Round Robin”

The first event, titled “Round Robin,” is set to take place on September 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Powerhouse. This isn’t just your average workshop; it’s a unique opportunity for participants to receive one-on-one consultations with industry experts. Attendees will have the chance to dive deep into a variety of important business topics, making this a standout event in the series.

Meghan Gallagher, the coordinator of the Big Bad Business Series, expressed her enthusiasm: “This is one of our favorite events of the year because it brings together so many aspects of small business. It lets you ask the initial question in a laid-back environment to see if you need to pursue further professional help. You can dip your toe in.”

During the event, attendees can sign up for up to four 20-minute sessions. There’s a variety of topics available for discussion including website design, digital content development, nonprofit organization, business plans, and small business finance. Whether you’re an aspiring entrepreneur, an established artist, or just looking to refine your business strategy, this event offers expert insights tailored to your needs. But don’t wait too long; space is limited, and you’ll want to reserve your spot by visiting Oxfordarts.com as soon as possible.

Next Up: “Night of Genius”

Following the Round Robin, the “Night of Genius” workshop will roll out on October 22 from 6 to 8 p.m., also at the Powerhouse. This event offers a remarkable platform for participants to showcase their business ideas or challenges in a supportive, welcoming environment.

Each presenter will have a chance to shine with a 5-7 minute pitch, where they can share either their brilliant concept or a tricky problem they are facing. One of the best parts? There are no formal presentations or slides required! This format encourages direct engagement between the presenters and the audience, making it feel relaxed and interactive. With around five presenters expected to share their ideas, it’s an evening filled with possibility and excitement—with a few surprises sprinkled in for good measure!

Jonathan Clayton, an AmeriCorps VISTA working on the project, shared, “I’m excited to learn about the creative ideas in Oxford and to help people achieve small business growth.”

Join the Fun!

Both of these workshops are completely free to attend, which makes them even more appealing! However, do remember that spots are limited. If you’re interested, be sure to jump on the opportunity and register early at Oxfordarts.com.

Whether you’re looking to kickstart a new venture or refine your existing business strategy, these workshops provide fantastic opportunities for growth and connection. So mark your calendars and get ready to engage with your local community in the vibrant city of Oxford.
