Oxford’s Night for Nonprofits Event to Spotlight Local Initiatives Against Homelessness

Oxford Community Nonprofit Event Highlights Efforts to Alleviate Homelessness

Oxford, Mississippi – Doors of Hope has been selected to take part in an important event called Night for Nonprofits, hosted by the Lafayette Oxford Foundation for Tomorrow (LOFT). This event is scheduled for Tuesday, August 6, at the Powerhouse Community Arts Center. It’s a special occasion that showcases the impactful work being done by local nonprofits while also providing an opportunity to present innovative project proposals that resonate with LOFT’s core mission areas.

Understanding the Event

The Night for Nonprofits is an annual gathering that draws attention to the hard work carried out by nonprofit organizations in the community. These projects align with LOFT’s focus on five key pillars: education, health and human services, arts and culture, community improvement, and municipal support. Mary Margaret Andrews, the director of Doors of Hope, mentioned that being part of this event serves as a great platform to showcase their project aimed at reducing homelessness in the Oxford-Lafayette area.

Doors of Hope’s Mission

Doors of Hope works to provide families at risk of homelessness with the essential tools and resources they need to maintain stable housing and develop self-sufficiency. “This platform allows us to showcase our project and its potential to alleviate homelessness in the Oxford-Lafayette area,” Andrews explained. She emphasized that their selection for the event underscores the importance of their work and gets them that much closer to fulfilling their mission.

Event Features and Community Involvement

The ninth Annual Night for Nonprofits will kick off with an exhibition hour where attendees can explore various displays and tables set up by local nonprofits. LOFT President Dr. Jody Holland stated, “We designed this event so that community members could participate in the awards.” Notably, guests will each receive a voting ticket at the door to select their favorite nonprofit for the $500 Crowd Favorite Award. Moreover, attendees can purchase additional voting tickets both online and at the door for $10 each.

In addition to the Crowd Favorite award, guests can support the nonprofits by submitting words of affirmation. The nonprofit that accumulates the most affirmations will be honored with the $500 Good Works Award. This initiative allows for greater community participation in recognizing the valuable work nonprofits contribute to the local community.
