Sponsor Our ArticlesIn the heart of Oxford, Mississippi, an uplifting event rolled into town recently, leaving behind a trail of good vibes and community spirit. The North Central Mississippi REALTORS, in collaboration with Blackburn Homes and Oxford Commons, organized their annual Charity Bowling Tournament to rally support for Love Packs, a local nonprofit dedicated to feeding at-risk students in the Lafayette and Oxford school districts. And what a fantastic turnout it was!
The tournament took place at the lively Premier Lanes Bowling Alley, bringing together real estate professionals, community members, and local business owners all united for a common cause. The atmosphere was electric, filled with laughter and cheers as participants took to the lanes, showing off their bowling skills—or lack thereof, in some cases! After a night of friendly competition and camaraderie, the event raised an impressive $35,500, proving once again that when the community comes together, great things can happen.
So, what exactly is Love Packs all about? This incredible organization has made a significant impact since its inception in 2012. It started with just 10 packs of food coming straight from volunteers’ kitchens but has since blossomed into a robust program that currently serves over 275 local students each week. These packs provide essential supplemental food for students to take home over weekends and holidays—ensuring that no child has to face hunger when school is out.
Love Packs has now expanded its reach to include 11 schools in the Lafayette and Oxford areas, making a tangible difference in the lives of many families. Incoming NCMR Board President Liza Fruge, who has been an active assistant with Love Packs, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from the community, emphasizing how vital these resources are for the children who rely on them.
The tournament wouldn’t have been such a success without the generous sponsors who stepped up to contribute. Among the key sponsors were The Citizens Bank, El Charro Cocina and Cantina, Stonewater Adolescent Recovery Center, Keith Collins Company, and Develop Design Studio. Keeping everyone’s energy high, McAlister’s Deli provided delicious catering that kept participants fueled throughout the evening.
The event saw participation from a wide variety of teams, consisting of realtors, mortgage companies, banks, and other industry stakeholders. A few of the participating organizations included Bank of Oxford, Blackburn Construction, Cannon Cleary McGraw, Regions Bank, and many more. Each team brought their A-game to the lanes, creating an environment filled with friendly competition and togetherness.
With the success of this bowling tournament, Love Packs is one step closer to ensuring that all local students have access to the nourishment they need to thrive. This event not only highlighted the generous spirit of the Oxford community but also strengthened the bond among local businesses and residents working towards a brighter future.
So, as the bowling balls rolled and laughter echoed through the lanes, one thing became clear: Oxford is a community that cares. Together, they are making sure that every child has the chance to succeed, both in and out of the classroom.
