Oxford Chargers Outshine Corinth with a 7-3 Victory

April 17, 2024

First Inning Scoring Commences

The Oxford Chargers snatched the victory against Corinth with a 7-3 score on their home turf Tuesday night. As they launched their game, Reid Kent, of Oxford, set the scoreboard on fire in the bottom of the first inning. He shone by scoring due to a single hit by Carson Schmelzer, giving Oxford a 1-0 lead over Corinth. Showing his remarkable performance, Kent completed the game with a 2-for-4 run record.

Jackson Hill’s Pitching Mastery

Oxford’s pitcher, Jack Hill, faced Corinth with his spectacular performance at the mound. Early into the game, this left-hander didn’t allow a singly run in the first three innings. His impressive pitching form and control were a delight to witness for everyone present at the ground.

Two-Run Homerun by Stinnett

The Chargers brought their A-game in the third inning by adding three runs to their total. Thanks to a single by Reid Kent, Brady Stinnett left the audience awestruck with a two-run home run to the center field. This was followed by yet another successful run by Thomas Rayburn, who raced to home from first on seeing a fly ball by James Blackwood dropped for an error by Corinth’s left fielder. This progression spiked Oxford’s lead in the frame raising the score to 7-2.

Jack Hill Bows Out, Josh Scruggs Steps In

Despite Corinth’s attempt to fight back during the fourth inning, their attempts fell short as they could only manage to add one run to their score in the fifth. After five innings, Oxford’s Hill was replaced at the mound by Josh Scruggs. Hill left having pitched 5.0 innings, allowing three runs from five hits with two walks and a strikeout. His replacement, Scruggs, didn’t disappoint the home crowd by working 2.0 innings and letting no runs through with just one hit, a walk and five strikeouts under his belt.

Up Next for Oxford

Oxford Chargers are ready to face Corinth once again, this time on the latter’s home ground. Their next action is slated for Friday with the first pitch set for 7 p.m., leaving their fans excited and their opponents cautious.
