Oxford Chargers Gear Up for 7A Playoffs This Friday
The Oxford Chargers, amidst a week-long hiatus in high-profile competitions, prepare to set foot back on the diamond to kick start their 7A playoff run against Germantown on Friday. The game, a testament to their laudable performance this season, is scheduled for a 7 p.m. first pitch. In a remarkable feat that still resonates across Mississippi, the Oxford Chargers have evidenced their determination and teamwork by closing the regular season with an impressive overall record of 19-9, highlighted by a sweep of Corinth just the previous week.
A Talk with the Coach
Catching up with the Oxford Chargers’ head coach, Cade Hoggard, yielded insights into the team’s mindset entering the playoffs. Speaking on the long interval between games, the coach stated, “Last game was Friday. So it’s a long layover, especially when we’re used to playing the Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday schedule. However, we’ve had some good practices.”
Hoggard also communicated his confidence in the team’s senior leadership. “We’re fortunate this year to have several seniors and some returning role players/starters that have been in this situation before. Our team has a great group of senior leaders. Focus has been great.” Oxford has braved a challenging season, facing 7A adversaries that have adequately prepared them for their upcoming clash against Germantown.
The Hurdle
Germantown presents a formidable threat, entering the series with an overall record of 20-6. “7A North is a very deep, very competitive classification,” said Hoggard. “Every team is good enough to win any given day. Germantown is a well-coached team with some very talented players. I think it will be a great series. We just have to make sure we play our brand of baseball and execute when given our opportunities. Should be a great series”.
The Playoff Matchups
The first game of the series, brimming with excitement and anticipation, will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday in Oxford. The second game promises to be just as thrilling, taking place in Germantown on Saturday, again at 7 p.m. The third bout will occur three days later on the 29th, wrapping up the series again in Oxford.
This much-anticipated series promises to leave fans on the edge of their seat as the Oxford Chargers make another run towards the championship. Rooting for familiar faces and welcoming fresh talent, Oxford city comes together to cheer on their local heroes, ready to charge into the playoffs and hopefully, emerge victorious.
