OXFORD, MISSISSIPPI – The City of Oxford Board of Aldermen will be conducting a Regular Meeting on June 4, 2024 at 5:00 pm. The meeting will be held in the City Hall Courtroom and will feature a full agenda, ranging from departmental approvals to grant requests and personnel matters.
The board members will start the meeting by adopting the agenda. The Mayor will then make his report. Minutes from the last regular meeting on May 21, 2024, and the recess meeting on May 28, 2024, will be presented for approval.
The Aldermen are also expected to give their approval for accounts across city departments, after which they shall shift focus towards the consent agenda. This will include topics like the management of fixed assets, human resources, grand requests, and miscellaneous matters.
The board will consider requests to declare certain equipment surplus in the Municipal Court Department and the Oxford Police Department. These items will subsequently be disposed of.
The Oxford Police Department will request for a modification to both Mississippi Office of Highway Safety grants (405D-Impaired Driving Enforcement and 402-Police Traffic Service) and for permission to apply for the Bulletproof Vest Grant Program.
In this portion, the board will discuss various personnel matters like promotions, hirings, resignation, and retirements in different departments. There will also be the discussion of approval for unpaid internships and volunteers for specific departments.
The board will adopt a proclamation for U.S. Army Day and accept an Early Childhood Reading Report. Requests for water and/or sewer adjustments will also be considered along with permission to accept donations for the Oxford Animal Resource Center.
Travel permissions for field activities from various departments will also be considered. This includes Mounted Patrol Officers supporting the Rock the Country music festival and employees’ attendance at Mississippi Command College.
During the meeting, there will also be significant decisions on topics such as budgetary amendments and allocations, introduction of new Oxford Housing Authority Executive Director, and approval for a preliminary plat for property expansion.
The meeting agenda includes a discussion about Oxford Utilities budget and the civil portion of the Old Taylor Road Subdivision Addition Project. The attendees are also expected to deliberate on water sewer adjustments in line with the Oxford Utilities Leak Adjustment Policy.
Key future-focused topics like the annual affordable housing report, interlocal agreement with the Oxford and Lafayette school districts for the Early Childhood Reading Program, and approval of a Parade/Assembly Permit for a local business will also be brought forward.
The board’s meeting promises to be a functionally useful event, with actions and decisions shaping the future of Oxford. It aims to cover necessary ground in city planning, resourcing, and collaboration to enhance the life of its residents.
Upon winding down the meeting, the board will consider a range of acknowledgments, including a retirement resolution for a dedicated employee from the Oxford Utilities-Water & Sewer Division and Permission for local residents to hire off-duty uniformed officers for traffic assistance
Before the Aldermen come to a close, they will discuss Change Order #1 from a local construction group and carry out a second reading and public hearing on a proposed ordinance amending the Stormwater Ordinance. Engineering services proposals and considerations for an executive session and adjournment will finalize the meeting.
