Oxford, Mississippi – A transformative investment from alumni Chad and Kristen Greer promises to sculpt the future of the Risk Management and Insurance program at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). The couple’s $50,000 donation to the program under the School of Business Administration was recently announced and will be supported by an equal contribution from Northwestern Mutual, Chad Greer’s employer of 27 years.
This generous gift culminates in the creation of the Greer Family RMI Scholarship Endowment. Given the matching donation from Northwestern Mutual, the total fund gets a substantial boost, amassing $100,000. The scholarship will aid qualified juniors and seniors choosing to major in Risk Management and Insurance. Emphasising their local roots, the couple expressed preference for the funding to support those students hailing from middle Tennessee counties, including Davidson, Rutherford, Sumner, Williamson, and Wilson.
Chad Greer, an Ole Miss alumni, harboured an interest in risk management from his time as a junior at the university. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1996. Following the completion of his degree, he took up an internship at Northwestern Mutual—a career that spans nearly three decades now and sees him in the position of a wealth adviser. During his tenure with the company, Chad Greer has earned notable accolades, being recognized by Forbes as a best-in-state wealth adviser and a top financial security professional.
His journey also included joining the Ole Miss Alumni Association board of directors. It was while being a fresher at Ole Miss that Greer met Kristen, who later became his wife. Kristen Greer, originally from Jackson, Tennessee, graduated in 1996 with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Two of their daughters are now proud students at their parent’s alma mater and members of the Chi Omega sorority, further strengthening their bond with the University.
The endowed scholarship is seen as a crucial tool to attract and retain exceptional Risk Management and Insurance majors. Andre Liebenberg, a professor of finance and chair of insurance, welcomed the donation, stating that the scholarship recipients would have “greater financial freedom and a better chance for academic success.”
Reflecting upon their contributions, Chad Greer said, “The university has meant so much to us. As an entire family, we’re excited about it.” The Greers’ gift not only represents their tribute to a place they value deeply but also a beacon light of hope for countless qualified students working hard to manage their tuition expenses while striving for academic excellence.
To contribute to the Greer Family RMI Scholarship Endowment, donors may write a check addressed to the University of Mississippi Foundation and specify the fund name on the memo line or resort to an online contribution.
