Ole Miss football has had a challenging start to the week, particularly for their 2025 recruiting class. Four-star recruit, Dillon Alfred, wide receiver from Alabama, announced that he’s decommitting from the Rebels, delivering another blow to the team’s prospects. Alfred is the third player to pull his commitment within a three-hour span on Monday.
Alfred joined fellow four-star wide receiver Jerome Myles and three-star defensive end Corey Amos in the withdrawal. Both Myles and Amos also announced their decommitment from the Ole Miss football team on Monday.
Dillon Alfred is rated as the No. 358 player in the 2025 class and holds a spot as the No. 54 wide receiver according to the 247Sports Composite. He currently plays high school football for Saraland and is listed as 5-foot-11, standing 175 pounds. Losing such highly-rated players is quite a setback for the Rebels.
The departure of Alfred and Myles represents a significant setback in Ole Miss’ recruiting efforts. These departures leave the Rebels without depth at the wide receiver position for the 2025 cycle. Following these departures, the number of commitments to the Rebels’ class, which previously sat at 12, plunged to nine. In terms of national rankings, their class now ranks 35th, edging out only Vanderbilt and Florida in the SEC.
With these recent events, Ole Miss will need to reboot its recruiting campaigns. The focus will be on filling their wide receiver position, which is currently reduced by the loss of Alfred and Myles. A new wave of recruitments is necessary for the team to remain competitive in the league, particularly in the SEC. Coaches and staff will likely be working overtime in the following days to search for capable recruits who can fill in the gaps.
The commitment of young, high-ranking athletes to college teams is never guaranteed until they are officially signed. Monday proved to be one of those unpredictable days for Ole Miss and a stark reminder of the volatile nature of college recruiting. However, it is not over until it’s over, and Ole Miss still has time and opportunities to turn their recruiting fate around.
