SAA to Throw Last Day of Class Bash at Ole Miss

OXFORD, MS – APRIL 29, 2024: The Student Activities Association (SAA) at the University of Mississippi, commonly known as Ole Miss, announces it will host its second annual “Last Day of Class Bash.” The event will take place at the Union Plaza on Friday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Event Overview

Designed as a carnival-themed celebration, the bash is a tribute to the academic endeavors of the Ole Miss community throughout the 2023-2024 academic year. The event will feature fun-packed activities including carnival games, delicious corndogs, cotton candy, popcorn, and a lively photo booth. The event promises to be an engaging way for students to relax before their finals.

Organizers and Goals

Senior exercise science major Chance Davidson and sophomore forensic chemistry major Anne Marlowe Gremillion, who serve as co-directors of SAA’s Campus Traditions Committee, are entrusted with the responsibility of organizing this event. The main objective of this bash, according to Davidson, is to “celebrate all the hard work that the students have put in for the academic year.” Davidson further elaborated that the event serves as a stress reliever, helping students to unwind before the intensive finals week.

Gremillion echoed Davidson’s sentiment, emphasizing that the event’s objective is to foster community spirit. She said, “This event specifically brings our community together to celebrate the closing of the chapter that was the 2023-2024 school year. It also gives students an outlet to let loose and make even more connections and memories.”

Student Reception

Jacobie Steen, a freshman music education major, expressed his eagerness to participate in the event. “It sounds like a really fun event, and I would love to be more involved in the Ole Miss community,” he said. For Steen, and many other students, this event serves as an opportunity to network outside their own academic niche and interact with a broader spectrum of students on campus.

The Impact

Gremillion and Davidson shared their experience with the event’s organizational responsibilities revealing that these roles broadened their perspective on student programming. Gremillion noted, “Having a greater responsibility within the organization opened many doors for me, specifically allowing me to see the true impact SAA has on the student body.”

Davidson, with his two-year tenure in the executive council, articulated his hope that this celebratory event evolves into a staple tradition for students in the years to come. “We think that this is a perfect event for students to come together and wind down the final week of school,” he said.
