Ole Miss Alumna Makes an Investment in the Future

UM Ole Miss Alumna Professes Hope for Accountancy School by Backing Educational Building Fund

In an inspiring announcement concerning the future of our local education system, Carolyn Golding, an adjunct professor at the University of Mississippi and proud alumna, has made a significant contribution towards the university’s Patterson School of Accountancy. Carolyn and her husband, Pete Golding, have announced their donation of $100,000 to the Patterson School Building Fund, which aims to construct a new central facility for the esteemed accountancy school.

Legacy of Education

Carolyn Golding is not only a respected member of the faculty but also an award-winning product of the university, having graduated in 2007 as a Taylor Medalist. After earning a Master of Tax degree in 2008 and a Juris Doctor from the School of Law in 2011, Carolyn quickly became well-recognized in the field of accountancy. She has worked for several private CPA firms, taught at the University of Southern Mississippi, the University of Texas at San Antonio before joining Ole Miss.

When speaking of her commitment to the university, Carolyn empathically announced, “The accountancy school is No. 1 in the SEC and Top 10 in the country, and it was that way when I was in college. I wanted to support the school so that it can continue to grow and keep its high standards.”

Benefits Beyond Borders

As part of their generosity, an adjunct professor suite in the new building will now be named in honour of the Golding family. According to Mark Wilder, the dean of the accountancy school, “Her combination of working in private practice as well as her past experience in teaching provides an outstanding benefit for our students. It is humbling and inspiring to see our graduates invest so much in the future of our school,”

Design of the Future

The 100,000-square-foot building is projected to be the new intersection for academia, aimed at centralizing education operations at the university. Envisioned to be located at the intersection of University Avenue and Grove Loop, the building will not only provide a ‘one-stop’ solution for classroom needs, but also aims to improve the academic experience by providing tiered auditoriums, modern classrooms, study areas, conference rooms, and administrative and faculty office suites.

Paving the Way

The significant contribution made by the Goldings showcases the power of individual contributions and the impact they can have on our local educational institutes. The seeds they’ve planted today, along with the efforts of other generous individuals, will truly pave the way for a brighter future in accountancy education at the University of Mississippi.

The Goldings and Giving Day

The Goldings announced their generous donation during the annual Giving Day (April 9-10), a social media-driven fundraising campaign that lasts one day, eight hours, and 48 minutes in honor of the university’s founding year of 1848. Their significant contribution sets a notable example for alumni and current students, demonstrating the essence of Giving Day and the impact it can make on the educational journey of many young aspirants.
