The vibrant city of Oxford is buzzing with excitement as we anticipate the arrival of at least four new restaurants in the coming months! Whether you’re a student at the University of Mississippi or a local resident, there’s plenty to look forward to, especially if you love chicken and tasty eats.
First up, a long-standing favorite among students is making some changes. Jimmy John’s has officially replaced Papa John’s in Minor Hall. This popular sandwich spot will be offering students a fantastic deal: one free sandwich per week during the spring semester! To snag this tasty offer, all you need to do is sign up for one of the Ole Miss Dining meal plans, which include the unlimited plus 1, weekly 15, or weekly 12 plans. But don’t worry; Jimmy John’s isn’t leaving the community entirely. Their long-standing location at Goose Creek Mall on Jackson Avenue will remain open for all of your sandwich cravings!
Another big announcement that has many local fans excited is the proposed Chick-fil-A location coming to Sisk Avenue in Oxford Commons. The city of Oxford is currently reviewing this exciting expansion. Employee and psychology junior, Reagan Houston, who has been working at the Jackson Avenue Chick-fil-A since February, is thrilled at the prospect. “I think it is a wonderful idea. It’ll give more access to the other side of town that wants their Chick-fil-A fix,” she said.
What’s even better? The new Chick-fil-A will feature both a drive-thru and a cozy indoor dining area for guests. Reagan added, “The new location will be a huge aid in helping us serve guests better. Not only will it provide more access, allowing people to go to either location, but on game days especially, having two stores will allow us to serve more guests and to be more efficient in our production. Everyone loves Chick-fil-A, and this is just a perfect opportunity to show more love to our community here in Oxford.” We can almost taste those famous chicken sandwiches already!
If you’re a Mexican food lover, this next announcement is sure to get you swooning. Chipotle Mexican Grill is set to open its second location in Oxford Commons by mid-2024! Currently, Chipotle operates on West Jackson Avenue, but the new spot will offer a fantastic dining experience, including indoor seating, mobile ordering, and the convenience of a drive-thru line – something its Jackson Avenue counterpart lacks!
Freshman forensic chemistry major, Sophie Krumhansl, couldn’t be more excited. “I plan to visit the new Chipotle for sure, and I am very excited to see what they have to offer the community,” she said. It sounds like there will be plenty of delicious guacamole and burritos to go around!
Last, but certainly not least, is Connie’s Chicken. This beloved establishment is also set to break ground next to Popeyes on West Jackson Avenue. Known for its scrumptious chicken options and delightful breakfast menu, which includes blueberry donuts and savory sausage and gravy biscuits, Connie’s has been a staple in Tupelo for over four decades. Originally created by Constantine Asters and his son Mike in 1978, the restaurant is now under the new ownership of Nickle Smith and Tres Brasell, following Mike’s passing in late 2020. This new Oxford location will not only feature breakfast but also dinner service, giving folks even more chances to enjoy their fantastic offerings!
As we look forward to the opening of these new restaurants, it’s clear that the food scene in Oxford is growing stronger, offering tasty options for both students and locals alike. Whether you’re in the mood for a quick sandwich, a fill-up on your favorite chicken, or even a burrito, Oxford will certainly be the place to be for food lovers in the near future. So, mark your calendars and get ready to indulge in some exciting culinary delights!
