As country music lovers eagerly await the return of music star Morgan Wallen to Oxford on Saturday, local authorities – stepping into preemptive action – have already issued warnings about possible traffic congestion around the concert venue.
The Oxford Police Department (OPD) has shared valuable advice and information regarding the expected increase in local road traffic. Motorists have been cautioned against parking on Highway 6 or any exit ramp for the event because those areas are off-limits for parking.
Morgan Wallen, the celebrated country music artiste, will be performing at the well-known Vaught-Hemmingway Stadium. The gates open at 4 p.m. while the show is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m.
Recalling last year, Wallen was supposed to perform at two shows at the Vaught, but had to cancel the second concert because he lost his voice. The artist’s voice condition worsened just before he was scheduled to take the stage — a disappointment for his eager fans.
In an effort to maintain order and security, no vehicles will be permitted on the campus unless they can provide evidence of an official parking permit. After the concert is over, all traffic is expected to flow out of the campus. This planned movement of vehicles is designed to mimic the patterns observed after a football gameday, aiming to ensure a smooth outflow of traffic.
< With high volumes of traffic expected both before and after the concert, drivers are requested to be vigilant. The OPD further asked everyone to “watch for officers directing traffic and to be mindful of the roads, put down phones, and drive sober”.
Despite the traffic hiccups that may occur, the town is ramping up for what’s being touted as a high-energy country musical spectacle. Fans of Wallen aim to soak in the music and have fun while remaining respectful of the local laws and mindful of practical considerations. The shared goals for all – a fantastic concert, minimal disruptions, and safe driving.
