OXFORD – Rejuvenating the Romance for Spring

Oxford college students

With spring season in full bloom, students of the University of Mississippi are diving into the sea of love and romance. As football games fall out of the weekend schedule, the students are embracing numerous, innovative concepts of spring dates to kindle their romantic endeavours. Here are some exceptional spring date options suggested by students themselves.

Square Books and a Walk Downtown

Courting intellectual romance through books and flowers, the Square’s rich culture combined with its spring beauty provides the perfect setting. As freshman public policy major Ella Grace Young reveals, “I would love to take a walk among the tulips around the Square, and then go to Square Books to gift each other a book.”

Country Cruising

Spring provides a fascinating backdrop for lengthy drives down the winding country roads of Mississippi. For junior psychology major Ryleigh Overby, it’s all about the pretty country roads, engaging conversations, and good music.

Eating Outdoors – Picnics

Tasting delicacies in the open, soaking up Vitamin D and company, Oxford with its vast expanses of green spaces is perfect for old-school picnics. Freshman business major Blair Burk suggests bringing a blanket and lunch to savor in Lamar Park or the Grove.

Communing with Nature at Sardis Lake

Situated a mere 10 miles northwest of the UM campus, Sardis Lake is the haven for nature lovers. Ella Gilley, an integrated marketing communications freshman, suggests, “Go fishing, maybe you won’t enjoy it, but do it for your partner.”

Walking a Doggie

Spring, romance and cute animals – a perfect blend. For Ella Foren, a freshman psychology major, an ideal spring date would be “renting” a dog for a day from the Oxford Animal Rescue Center and taking it for a walk.

Horseback Riding

Embarking on an adventure ride, sharing laughter, and discovering nature’s beauty together, horseback riding is an ultimate romantic thrill. Emerald Nyambat, a freshman public health major, suggests it as it feels natural and keeps one engaged.

Art Experience: Painting

Spring’s spectrum of colors can manifest through refreshing painting sessions. Performing art activities promotes creativity, bonding and a sense of tranquility among couples. Senior psychology major Daisy Nunez would love to illustrate these colors with her date.

Pickleball Pleasure

Unveiling one’s competitiveness with a game of pickleball – a fusion of tennis, badminton and ping-pong – can be an enjoyable experience. However, this is not recommended for a first date as it can be embarrassing if one is not proficient at pickleball, says Catherine Maitre, a freshman secondary English education major.

Drive-in Movie Theater

The ambience of a drive-in movie theater offers a peaceful refuge from the everyday hustle. Along with the serenity of a starry night, one can be entertained by the latest on-screen story. The closest venue is at the Malco Summer-Drive-In in Memphis, Tenn.

Spectating Baseball Games

Ole Miss Baseball games, popcorn, hotdogs, and beer showers all orchestrate the ideal date for Teddy Bond, a freshman accounting major, who believes such events provide a casual and entertaining environment for couples.

Coffee on the Croft Porch

The beautiful porch at the Croft Institute for International Studies offers an ideal setting for spring coffee dates. Sipping coffee at (J.D. Williams Library) Starbucks and conversing whilst overlooking the Grove usually make international studies major Sven Ise’s date perfect.

In conclusion, it’s the company that matters the most for these dream spring dates not just the location. These innovative ideas by our students will surely inspire you to plan your next romantic outing this spring season.
