Eat in Oxford: A Celebration of Food, Drink, and Entertainment

Oxford, Mississippi was alive with excitement on Saturday, May 11, 2024 as locals and tourists alike partook in the city’s vibrant food, drink, and entertainment scene. Here’s a recap of what transpired on this flavorful day.

Feasting in Oxford

The day started early with Ollie’s Do-nuts, located at 2151 South Lamar Blvd., opening its doors at 5:30 am and serving Oxford’s morning crowd until afternoon. The Big Bad Breakfast at 719 North Lamar Blvd., famous for their southern breakfast specialties, followed, serving the early risers from 8 am until 2:30 pm.

Lunchtime drew crowds to places like Ajax Diner (118 Courthouse Sq.) known for their hearty meals, served from 11 am to 9 pm. At the same time, The Library at 120 South 11th St., offered a happy hour from 3 to 7 pm, with $1 off all drinks enticing locals and visitors alike.

Oxford’s Food Deliveries

Several food establishments in Oxford partnered with local food delivery services like Fetcht.com and Take a Break to bring their delicious meals straight to customers. Locals enjoyed delivery from places like City Grocery, Funkys Pizza & Daiquiri Bar, Moe’s, and Quack’s Dogs.

Evening Delights

As evening approached, places like Snackbar (721 North Lamar Blvd.) and SoLa (401 South Lamar Blvd.) offered enticing happy hour deals. Snackbar’s deal included $2 domestics, $4 drafts, $6 select wines, and $8 select classic cocktails along with small plate & oyster specials, while SoLa offered $5 fresh-squeezed margaritas from 5 to 7 pm.

The Entertainment Scene

But it wasn’t just about food and drinks in Oxford on this day, the entertainment scene was equally vibrant. Early highlights included KC & The Moonshine Band regaling the audience at The Mad Hatter from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm, followed by a spirited performance of dueling pianos from 3 to 6:30 pm and again from 7 to 11 pm.

The evening was set on fire with DJ Meezy Supreme at Quack’s Dogs while at Rafters at 1000 East Jackson Ave., patrons enjoyed various performances from Zechariah Lloyd & Friends, Rocket 88, Eric Deaton Band, and dueling DJs. Rooster’s and Proud Larry’s also had music with performances from 12Eleven and Grits & Greens respectively.

Sports and Music

Over at Swayze Field, sports fans cheered on the home team during an exciting game of baseball between Ole Miss and Texas A&M at 4 pm. After the game, fans headed to The Library to enjoy the musical performance by Neutral Snap. Meanwhile, the Mad Hatter continued its entertainment with Dueling Pianos until 11 pm.
