Sponsor Our ArticlesAs college basketball approaches March Madness, the competitive landscape is shifting with teams vying for top seeds and playoff positioning. Leading the charge is Tennessee, while teams such as Vanderbilt and Oregon push for better placements. Meanwhile, bubble teams like Boise State and Alabama are battling for spots, and some teams face steep challenges in securing tournament entries. This thrilling season promises unforgettable moments as teams strive to make their mark in the upcoming tournament.
It’s a thrilling time in college basketball as the regular season wraps up, and every game gets more exciting than the last! As we gear up for the highly anticipated March Madness, changes are rocking the projected tournament bracket. With many teams working hard to solidify their spots, let’s break down what’s been going on!
Right now, it seems like only a handful of teams are still in the running for those coveted No. 1 seeds. The latest analysis from USA TODAY Sports Bracketology highlights where teams stand as the end of the season approaches. One of the shining stars emerging from the pack is Tennessee, which is forecasted to secure the top seed in the West after an incredible game-winning 3-pointer from Jahmai Mashack against Alabama. With 10 Quad 1 wins under their belt, they’re locked in a tie with Alabama and Michigan State for the second most in the nation!
While the top seeds are always thrilling to talk about, the real drama unfolds around the middle seed lines—that’s the No. 7-10 range. Here, teams are either gaining momentum or losing their grip heading into March Madness. Vanderbilt, for example, has pushed its way up as a projected No. 7 seed in the East. Their recent Quad 1 record now stands at 5-8, boosted by three commendable wins against ranked opponents.
Another notable contender in this mix is Oregon, also projected as a No. 7 seed in the West thanks to an impressive six-game winning streak, which includes two Quad 1 victories. These clubs are soaring into the tournament with confidence, setting up potentially explosive first-round matchups!
On the other end of the spectrum, we have teams like San Diego State, currently sitting at a No. 10 seed in the Midwest. They’ve managed to secure a potential NCAA Tournament slot with five wins in their last six games. Meanwhile, Georgia has made quite the comeback as a projected No. 11 seed in the West, thanks to two crucial Quad 1 wins, including a hard-fought battle against Florida. Talk about rallying when it counts!
As we dig deeper, we find some bubble teams vying for their chances. Boise State is gaining steam as a No. 11 seed in the South (First Four) after a stellar five-game win streak. On the contrary, Alabama, which once had a stronghold on a No. 1 seed, has slipped to a No. 2 seed in the West after witnessing a tough stretch, losing three of their last five games. But don’t count them out just yet—they still have a shot at regaining a top spot!
Mississippi’s situation is a little more concerning; they’ve fallen to a No. 9 seed in the Midwest due to consecutive losses. They certainly need to turn things around against formidable opponents like Tennessee and Florida if they hope to improve their standing. Similarly, Creighton, currently projected as a No. 9 seed in the South, is facing pressure to deliver strong performances in the Big East tournament after a notable lack of wins lately.
As we reach the tail end of the bracket, some teams are finding themselves in hot water. Baylor is hanging onto the edge as a No. 10 seed in the East, and they faced the reality of potentially being left out of the main bracket for the first time since 2008, needing to build on recent victories against TCU.
Unfortunately, teams like Nebraska and Wake Forest are facing an uphill battle. Nebraska is inching toward elimination after unfortunate losses, including two Quad 3 defeats. On the other side, Wake Forest has likely dashed their NCAA Tournament hopes, with their last glimmer of hope relying on clinching an ACC tournament title.
As March Madness nears, excitement and uncertainty rule the day. Keep an eye on these teams as they navigate the final stretch of the regular season—the stage is set for an unforgettable tournament!
