Former 12th District Representative of the Mississippi House of Representatives, Jay Hughes, is bringing a boost to Oxford and Lafayette County — a significant economic development and tourism project. The project recently received approval from the Lafayette County Board of Supervisors, paving the way for the development of the Roundabout Oxford RV & Water Resort.
The proposed luxury resort, covering 85 acres, will find its home on the north side of Mississippi 6, approximately 3 miles outside Oxford city limits, with a projection to open in Spring 2025.
“Oxford has grown beyond just Ole Miss and Downtown Oxford and the Square,” Hughes said. “Though we expect Ole Miss game-day folks to enjoy our project, it’s for everyone.”
Slated to be North Mississippi’s first luxury RV resort, the Roundabout Oxford will offer its guests an array of amenities. The resort’s plans include provisions for 150 RV sites with full hookups, 20 high-end cottages, and a 2.5-acre water park complemented by a lazy river.
Beyond the conventional amenities, guests can also look forward to numerous activities, such as playing at the basketball and pickleball courts, moving around the miniature golf course, ziplining, relaxing at the sandy beach area, and fishing from a dedicated pier. The resort also plans to incorporate several ponds, a dog park, a fitness center, and golf cart rentals to amplify the overall experience.
Job creation is a significant outcome of this $22-million project. The construction phase will create multiple jobs, and once operating, the resort is expected to have an annual payroll budget exceeding $1 million.
While the primary services will be available to registered guests, Hughes emphasized the resort’s potential to attract local visitors. If not fully booked, the park may open for local day passes. “We see the resort not just as a business venture, but as a boost for the local community,” Hughes said.
Located among the rolling hills of Lafayette County, the resort aims to preserve as much natural habitat as possible. With careful planning, the project will prioritize the conservation of existing trees, vegetation, and ponds, and aim to fit seamlessly into the area’s natural contours.
“We want to be good stewards of the local habitat and look for every opportunity to prioritize the environment,” Hughes stated, referencing plans for an on-site glass bottle recycler converting waste glass into sand to be used on-site.
In addition to the above, the resort plans to use recycled materials to build hundreds of furniture pieces and implement low voltage and LED lighting solutions and energy-efficient appliances wherever applicable.
Hughes concludes, “We’re thrilled about bringing this project to life. It’s more than just a resort; it’s an opportunity for us to welcome the community into a space we’re proud of. Anticipating the joy it will bring to families and visitors excites us the most. We can’t wait for everyone to experience what we have in store.”
