Marshall County Man Arrested After High-Speed Chase and Collision

Lafayette County, Mississippi – Arrest After a Dangerous Chase

A Marshall County man by the name of Larriel Milam, 30, was arrested on May 28th after initiating a high-speed chase and subsequently crashing his car. The chase originated from a simple traffic stop along highway 7 and ended in a collision at the intersection of CR 244 and Hwy. 7.

Initial Incident

The incident began at 9:45 a.m. when the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office received a report about a reckless driver on Highway 7. As per the report, a Lafayette County Sheriff’s deputy, stationed near the intersection of the Highway 7 and CR 1032, spotted the vehicle in question. However, as the deputy approached the vehicle for a routine traffic stop, the driver sped off, heading south on Hwy. 7.

In response to the sudden and illegal course of action taken by the driver, the deputy immediately embarked on a pursuit. The fleeing vehicle then switched directions and sped north on Hwy. 7.

Collision and Subsequent Arrest

The chase, which posed a serious threat to other commuters, eventually terminated at the CR 244 and Hwy. 7 intersection, where Milam collided with another vehicle. Following the crash, Milam attempted to escape on foot but was promptly apprehended by local law enforcement.

Both Larriel Milam and the victim of the crash were promptly transported to the emergency room at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi. Fortunately, both individuals received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries sustained from the crash.

Legal Consequences for Milam

Larriel Milam was transferred from the emergency room to the Lafayette County Detention Center, where he was given a bond amount set at $5,000 by a Lafayette County Justice Court Judge. Additionally, Milam has received holds from multiple jurisdictions, including the Mississippi Department of Corrections, the Union County Sheriff’s Department, the Oxford Police Department, the Panola County Sheriff’s Department, and Shelby County Sheriff’s Department.

Implications for Road Safety

Instances like this highlight the importance of vigilant law enforcement and the perils of reckless driving. The immediate response from the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department ensured the swift arrest of the suspect, preventing further harm to the public and maintaining road safety. Moreover, it serves as a stern reminder to comply with traffic officers’ instructions on the road.
