About the Book

Iles’ latest novel, Southern Man, commences fifteen years post the incidents of the acclaimed Natchez Burning trilogy. The protagonist, Penn Cage, finds himself alone as he grapples with loss, mortality, and the haunting secrets from his past.

The story unravels after a brawl at a Mississippi rap festival triggers a blood-spattered mass shooting, pulling Penn out of his self-imposed exile. Penn, his dauntless civil rights lawyer daughter, and a former Black Panther have to face the formidable pursuit of a third-party presidential candidate, Bobby White and expose the motives behind his pursuit before America descends into civil war.

About the Author

Greg Iles has spent most of his life in the historic city of Natchez, Mississippi. His first novel, Spandau Phoenix, set the stage for a series of New York Times bestsellers. His exceptional understanding of the American South, its beauty, and racial struggle have been lauded by the likes of Stephen King. Iles is currently a member of the lit-rock group The Rock Bottom Remainders and resides in Natchez with his family.

Praise for Southern Man

Southern Man has been hailed as a “genuinely terrifying book” due to its accurate depiction of post-Trump America’s turbulent social and political landscape, according to Kirkus. Critics have compared Iles with revered Southern novelist Pat Conroy, as they share a similar passion, intensity and unwavering commitment to their work. Washington Post also compared Iles’ book to The Bone Tree, calling it a “very American epic-in-progress.”
