N. Gordon Thompson, Noteworthy Alumnus, Makes a Generous Investment in University of Mississippi’s Accounting Program

N. Gordon Thompson, a distinguished alumnus and Certified Public Accountant (CPA), has recently made a significant contribution to the building fund of the Patterson School of Accountancy at the University of Mississippi. Thompson, who is based in Memphis, Tennessee, is committed to lending his financial support to assist the school in maintaining its high national ranking.
“I am hopeful that this significant investment in the Patterson School of Accountancy’s new building will aid in not just preserving its superior ranking in the country, but also in attracting hardworking students committed to shaping the future of the accounting profession,” Thompson expressed.
Building towards Excellence
The proposed construction plan consists of a four-story building that covers approximately 110,000 square feet. The building, positioned at the junction of University Avenue and Grove Loop on the university’s campus, will host an array of modern amenities including tiered auditoriums, classrooms, study areas, and conference rooms.
Thompson’s substantial gift of $125,000 is committed to the new building’s construction. To recognize his immense generosity, a second-floor faculty suite will be named in his honor.
Upholding Reputation and Rankings
Thompson’s contribution is expected to significantly enhance the Patterson School of Accountancy’s infrastructure, promoting its visibility and attractiveness to prospective students and faculty. Consistent in securing high positions in national rankings, the school currently holds the 8th spot in the U.S. and tops the list among SEC schools.

Thompson’s association with the University of Mississippi goes beyond his academic years there. He, along with his wife, Jan, have been regularly contributing to scholarships and financial aid programs to assist students in need.

He was drawn to the university because of its manageable enrollment size and proximity to his hometown, Memphis.
