Oxford School District Announces Free Summer Meal Program for Area Children

Oxford School District to Provide Free Breakfast and Lunch to Area Children this Summer

In an effort to combat potential food insecurity, the Oxford School District (OSD) will offer free breakfast and lunch to all children in the area throughout the summer break. The free Summer Meal Program, which begins on June 3rd and concludes on July 12th, will serve meals every weekday.

No Reserve for Residents, No Income Proof, and No Applications

No documentation whatsoever, such as residence, proof of income, or application requirements, is demanded from the children. It is important to underline that the program is not exclusive to students from Oxford schools only. The OSD extends an open invite to all children across Lafayette County and surrounds, truly making the program accessible to all.

Accompanied Children and Available Locations

One vital requirement is for children under the age of 12 – they must be accompanied by an adult. The OSD has made provisions for adults to purchase meals at an affordable price of $2 for breakfast and $4 for lunch.

The district has made arrangements for two locations to serve these meals. These include the Oxford Middle School located at 222 Bramlett Blvd. and the Central Elementary School situated at 409 Washington Ave. The former will serve breakfast from 7-9 a.m. and lunch from 10:30 a.m.- 1 p.m. The latter will follow the same timetable. Both locations will offer dine-in and carryout options.

USDA Nutrition Guidelines

While the summer menu may differ from the usual school-year offerings, the meals will still align with the U.S. Department of Agriculture nutrition guidelines, ensuring that students are served balanced, nutritious meals. The primary goal is to ensure that every child has access to a healthy meal throughout the summer.

For additional inquiries, the Oxford School District Child Nutrition Services Department can be reached at 662-234-3541.

To sum up, the OSD Summer Meal Program emerges as an inspiring example of community support during a time when many children run the risk of facing food shortage. It ensures that no child goes hungry over the summer, providing nutritious meals freely with minimal restrictions.
