Ford Center Announces Exciting 2024-2025 Schedule in Oxford

Oxford, MS – The Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts has officially released its schedule for the 2024-2025 season, and it promises a mix of entertainment appealing to a wide audience. Tickets are now on sale, and this season includes two Tony Award-winning musicals, notable comedians, tribute bands, and much more.

A Focus on Community and Students

Julia Aubrey, the director of the Ford Center, stated, “There are plenty of shows this fall and in the spring that will interest our university students.” She encouraged students to inquire about available student discounts to make attending these performances even more accessible.

To kick off the fall semester, stand-up comedian Heather McMahan, who is also an Ole Miss alum, will perform on Thursday, Aug. 29. Aubrey mentioned that McMahan was chosen specifically with students in mind, highlighting her popularity among younger audiences.

Major Highlights of the Season

This upcoming season features two major musicals: “Dear Evan Hansen,” a six-time Tony Award winner, will be performed during the fall, while the spring will see the show “Hadestown,” which tells the mythical tale of Orpheus and Eurydice through vibrant music and dance.

Responding to interests expressed by students, the Ford Center will also host a country music event featuring The Frontmen on September 26. This group consists of three prominent lead singers from the country genre: Larry Stewart of Restless Heart, Richie McDonald of Lonestar, and Tim Rushlow of Little Texas.

A Variety of Performances for All

The schedule at the Ford Center has something for everyone. On September 12, former lead singer of Journey, Steve Augeri, will take the stage to perform iconic hits like “Don’t Stop Believin’” and “Any Way You Want It.” For fans of classic rock, this is a show not to be missed!

Following this, on February 8, attendees can enjoy “Britbeat,” touted as an immersive Beatles tribute experience that promises to take fans on a nostalgic journey through the beloved band’s music.

To add to the mix of diverse performances, a cappella group Voctave is scheduled for October 19, and on November 18, the Jazz Ambassadors of the U.S. Army Band will showcase their talent.

Educational Programming and Holiday Specials

The Ford Center is also focusing on educational programming this season. Two events are planned: Mister C Live! The World in Motion – Newton’s Laws on September 30, and Our Planet Live – Life on Our Planet with Dan Tapster on October 17. These events aim to engage and educate the community, making learning fun and interactive.

As the holiday season approaches, fans of the Peanuts gang will delight in “A Charlie Brown Christmas, Live!” set for December 5. This performance will bring the charming stories of Charlie Brown and friends to life on stage.

Looking Ahead to 2025

The New Year celebrations at the Ford Center will begin with “The Simon and Garfunkel Story” on February 11, featuring a full live band that honors the legendary artists Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel.

To round out the season, on April 1, the Ford Center will present William Shakespeare’s “The Comedy of Errors,” reimagined into modern verse by Christina Anderson, perfect for both Shakespeare enthusiasts and new audiences alike.

This new season at the Ford Center not only showcases a rich variety of shows but also reflects the commitment to offering high-quality entertainment that resonates with all members of the Oxford community. Be sure to mark your calendars and grab your tickets soon!
