Ford Center in Oxford Unveils Exciting 2024-2025 Schedule
Oxford, Mississippi – The Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts has officially released its lineup for the upcoming 2024-2025 season, and it promises to be an exciting mix of performances that cater to a variety of tastes. The center offers everything from award-winning musicals to comedy shows and educational programs.
Season Highlights
Tickets for the new season are now on sale, and the Ford Center is expecting a lot of interest, especially from university students. According to Julia Aubrey, the director of the Ford Center, this season was designed with students in mind. “There are plenty of shows this fall and in the spring that will interest our university students,” Aubrey mentioned. “Be sure to ask about student discounts.”
The season kicks off on August 29 with a comedy performance from stand-up comedian and Ole Miss alum Heather McMahan. Aubrey explained that having McMahan as the opening act was a deliberate choice. “We had the Ole Miss students in mind when we booked comedian Heather McMahan as our opening show this fall. She is an alumna and highly popular with a younger demographic,” she added.
A Musical Experience
This fall, the venue will feature the six-time Tony Award-winning musical “Dear Evan Hansen,” which is known for its touching story and emotional songs. Following that, in the spring, the Ford Center will present “Hadestown” by Anaïs Mitchell, a mesmerizing retelling of the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice.
In response to student demand for more country music performances, the Ford Center has lined up a concert by the Frontmen, who will hit the stage on September 26. This group consists of three well-known lead singers from popular country bands: Larry Stewart of Restless Heart, Richie McDonald of Lonestar, and Tim Rushlow of Little Texas.
The Ford Center also has events planned for the entire Oxford community. On September 12, the former lead vocalist of the iconic rock band Journey, Steve Augeri, will perform some of the band’s greatest hits, including “Don’t Stop Believin’” and “Any Way You Want It.” Furthermore, audiences can look forward to “Britbeat – the Immersive Beatles Tribute Experience” on February 8, promising a unique celebration of the Beatles’ legacy.
Diverse Programming
The Ford Center has something planned for everyone, including a cappella group Voctave on October 19 and a performance by the Jazz Ambassadors of the U.S. Army Band on November 18.
Education is also a focus, with two dedicated programs this fall: “Mister C Live! The World in Motion – Newton’s Laws” will take place on September 30, and “Our Planet Live – Life on Our Planet with Dan Tapster” on October 17.
Special Christmas Event
In a festive twist, the Ford Center will present “A Charlie Brown Christmas, Live!” on December 5, bringing beloved characters to life as they share familiar tales.
Looking Ahead
The new year at the Ford Center will begin with “The Simon and Garfunkel Story” on February 11. This production features a full live band that highlights the journey of one of the most famous folk-rock duos.
Lastly, the season will end with a modern adaptation of William Shakespeare’s “The Comedy of Errors,” set to take place on April 1. This version is reimagined by Christina Anderson into modern verse, making it more accessible to contemporary audiences.
Conclusion
The Ford Center’s 2024-2025 season promises to be filled with a variety of performances, appealing to all ages and interests in the Oxford area. With a mix of music, comedy, and educational events, everyone is sure to find something they will enjoy.
