In a momentous development, the Lafayette County Board of Supervisors, during its regular meeting, approved a bid for the final phase of the West Oxford Loop Extended on Monday morning. This move is a crucial step in the progression of a project that aims to improve interconnectivity in the locality.
Six different companies submitted their bids for the project, ranging from $7.8 million to $8.5 million. However, as per the law, the county must select the ‘lowest and best’ bid among them. In this particular case, this accolade belonged to STE-BIL Grading from Waterford, whose proposal came with a promising tag of $7.8 million. Unfortunately, two of the six submitted bids had to be rejected due to their incompleteness.
The West Oxford Loop project is a path-breaking venture in association with Oxford, Lafayette County, and the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT). The extension is planned to connect College Hill Road to Industrial Park Road, which further connects to Highway 7 North, thereby augmenting the interconnectance in the area.
Once the last phase is completed, the connection between Highway 6 West and Highway 7 North will be accomplished, signifying the culmination of over 20 years of plannings by Oxford and Lafayette County.
The green signal to the final phase beckons a significant stride in the realization of the project at large, primed to play a pivotal part in revitalizing transportation and connectivity in the locality. This move, undoubtedly, stands as a testament to the emphasis on better infrastructure and seamless transit across all corners of the county.
