Oxford, Mississippi – The regular season for the Ole Miss Rebels has wrapped up, and let’s just say, it ended on a high note! With postseason honors pouring in, it’s hard not to feel that buzz of pride around town. On Monday, three standout players from the Rebels football team grabbed some serious recognition by being named to the Associated Press All-America teams, a clear testament to their hard work and impressive performances throughout the exhilarating 9-3 campaign!
Leading the charge is defensive lineman Walter Nolen, who has snagged a spot on the first team, marking his sixth All-America nod this year. Talk about an achievement! Nolen has been a fierce presence on the field, racking up an impressive 14 tackles for loss, which ties him for the team lead. He also boasts a solid 6.5 sacks and 48 total tackles, not to mention his knack for disrupting plays with three pass breakups, three quarterback hurries, and two fumble recoveries. In SEC play, Nolen has truly shined, leading all defensive players with an impressive 12 tackles for loss and tying for fifth with those 6 sacks. Wow, talk about making your mark!
Next up is the remarkable wide receiver, Tre Harris, who made the second team despite encountering several bumps in the road due to injuries. Even with those limitations, Harris still managed to rack up a whopping 1,030 receiving yards, placing him second in the SEC! He caught seven touchdown passes, marking his first-ever 1,000-yard season, and joining an elite club as the sixth Rebel to surpass that milestone in a single season. Can you say impressive?
Last but definitely not least is linebacker Chris “Pooh” Paul Jr., who earned a spot on the third team after a remarkable first season in Oxford. Paul has been busy, leading all Rebels defenders with a staggering 88 total tackles, which includes a strong 50 solo tackles. With 11 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, and a host of other stats to his name (think nine QB hurries, four pass breakups, one interception, and one fumble recovery), he’s had quite the impact in his debut season!
As the accolades pile up for these standout players, there’s one more game on the horizon for the Rebels. They are set to face the Duke Blue Devils in the highly anticipated TaxSlayer Gator Bowl on January 2nd. It’s an exciting opportunity for the team to showcase their talent and finish the season strong!
With all this recognition, it’s no wonder that all three of these remarkable players have expressed their intent to declare for the NFL Draft once the season wraps up. This exciting development has fans on the edge of their seats, pondering what the future holds for these young stars.
As the Rebels bask in the glory of their postseason honors and gear up for their upcoming bowl game, the atmosphere in Oxford is electric! With players like Nolen, Harris, and Paul leading the charge, it’s safe to say that the future looks bright for Ole Miss football. Who’s rooting for a thrilling conclusion to the season? We sure are!
