If there is one city that consistently delivers world-class dining, creative cocktails, and captivating entertainment; it’s Oxford, Mississippi. On Saturday, May 25, 2024, the city buzzed with an unmatched energy, each corner offering a distinct possibility to delight your taste buds and soothe your soul.
Right on Courthouse Square, sat the Ajax Diner offering sumptuous meals from 11 am to 9 pm. Ajax brought the undeniable allure of classic Southern comfort food, promising to fill both belly and the heart. A few blocks away, Big Bad Breakfast, renowned for its hearty morning meals, opened its doors from 8 am – 2:30 pm, drawing even the not-so-early birds to the table.
Ole Miss’s favorite, Southern Coop, known for its mouthwatering wings, started serving from 11 am until 9 pm. As the evening deepened, SoLa turned up the charm with its famous fresh-squeezed Margaritas during happy hour from 5–7 pm.
Funky’s Pizza & Daiquiri Bar, an Oxford original, stayed open from 11 am till late into the night; offering unique daiquiris alongside crowd-pleasing pizzas. For those who fancy wine and fine dining, City Grocery, an Mississippi culinary landmark, opened its doors from 4 pm till 1 am, boasting a fantastic happy hour between 4–6 pm.
Mijito lovers found their paradise at Volta Taverna with half-price Margaritas and frozen Mojitos offered during their happy hour from 4–7 pm. Meanwhile, fine cocktail aficionados found their haven at Snackbar, offering select classic cocktails, wines, domestic and draft beers during its happy hour from 4–5 pm.
But that’s not all; Oxford was not just about food and drink. From DJ DRUMM at the Rafters Oxford to the exciting HAGGARD COLLINS BAND (7–10 pm) at Rafters on the Water, the city was buzzing with live acts designed to take your evening to the next level.
The charm of dueling pianos captivated audiences at The Mad Hatter from 7–11 pm, while the Powerhouse hosted an OLD TIME PIANO-PLAYING CONTEST starting with dinner at 6 pm and continuing into the night.
Oxford’s Mid-Town Farmer’s Market offered fresh produce, baked goods, and artisanal crafts from 7–11 am in the Midtown shopping center, while the Nutt Auditorium transformed into a playground for music lovers, hosting its own OLD TIME PIANO-PLAYING CONTEST throughout the day.
All in all, with so many fantastic options at your fingertips, from mouthwatering meals to flavorful beverages and captivating entertainment, Oxford, Mississippi remained true to its reputation as a city where every visit feels like a grand celebration of life.
