Chicory Market to Host Grand Opening Friday in Mid-Town Shopping Center

In a much-anticipated event, the Chicory Market is set to host its grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, May 3. This milestone event will take place at their newly opened location in Oxford’s Mid-Town Shopping Center.

Day-Long Community Celebration

The all-day grand opening celebration will be packed with activities for all, including local food maker pop-ups, a community fair, cooking demos, product giveaways, live music, and a shrimp boil. One of the highlights will be the breaking down of an 80-pound wheel of parmesan by Johnston Hill Creamery.

Chicory Market’s partners, including Johnston Hill Creamery, Home Place Pastures, and Heartbreak Coffee, will also be present and operating their businesses at the grand opening event. Vendor partners such as Las Delicias, Spark Confectionary, Oxsicles, and Justevia will be providing delicious food options.

New Beginnings

The Chicory Market, which opened its doors in January, serves as a collaborative food space where its partners operate their businesses as departments within a seamless grocery experience. This harmonizing venture has enabled Chicory to fully embrace its mission of supporting the local food economy, working with a network of over 75 local farmers and foodmakers to provide inclusive access to local and natural products to people of all economic means.

As co-owner Kate Bishop affirmed, “The more invested the community is in local food, the more we are able to serve everyone by securing better prices for our customers,”

Serving the Community

Activities during the event aim to cater to the local community with a focus on wellness and addressing food insecurity. Local organizations such as Grove Grocery, Doors of Hope, and Mississippi Care will showcase their action in these areas. The grand opening aims to present an opportunity for shoppers to make contributions towards combating local food insecurity. Oxford Pantry and Grove Grocery will be collecting food donations.

Since its establishment, the expansion of the Chicory market has continually prioritized its role in improving food accessibility. Over the past year, the Market joined a national buying cooperative to source better prices from food distributors. It also extended its variety of products focusing on value items and brands.
