Carole Murphey Appointed Director of Mississippi Judicial College
About the Appointment
Carole Murphey has been appointed as the new Director of the Mississippi Judicial College (MJC). The announcement was made by Frederick G. Slabach, the Dean of the University of Mississippi School of Law. In her new role, that followed a long tenure of 27 years at MJC, Murphey will serve as a principal administrator handling the college’s operations and supervising the professional staff.
Murphey’s Achievements and Leadership Role
An integral part of MJC’s success, Murphey has served as staff attorney and research counsel prior to assuming her new role. Her leadership acumen was displayed during her service as interim director of the MJC since June of 2023, where she steered the MJC through a full program year, ensuring its continued success and growth.

Murphey’s leadership talent did not go unnoticed. Randy Pierce, former MJC Director and former Mississippi Supreme Court Justice, applauded Murphey’s leadership. “Carole Murphey will do an excellent job leading the Mississippi Judicial College. She has dedicated her legal career to serving Mississippi judges and court-related personnel”, Pierce said.

UM Law School Dean Frederick G. Slabach accredited Murphey’s appointment as director to her remarkable contributions and leadership within the legal community. Murphey’s Distinctive Achievements
Murphey earned her Juris Doctor from UM Law in 1994, showcasing her leadership skills. She served on the editorial board of the Mississippi Law Journal, held the position of Judicial Liaison of the Moot Court Board, and chaired the Honor Council.
Expectations from Murphey’s New Role
In her new role, Murphey will orchestrate and administer the operations of the MJC. She will also collaborate with Mississippi judges and court personnel to provide for the needs of the judiciary.
