Booth’s Barbeque, once a household name as Lamar Yard, mirrors much of its previous exterior semblance. However, under the new ownership of Josh Booth, this popular restaurant underwent subtle yet refreshing changes. After a brief closure in November, the restaurant reopened in January, completely overturning its traditional sit-down server style in favor of a counter-style, deli-inspired setup.

Texan Taste, Mississippi Charm

Hailing from Batesville and a proud graduate of the University of Mississippi, Booth made his way to Texas post-graduation to begin his culinary journey. He evolved as an executive chef across varied restaurants before finally falling for the charm of barbeque. Approaching each dish with a deep-set passion that dates back 20 years, Booth stated, “I kind of fell in love with it,” referring to barbeque, “I wanted to open my own place so I figured I’d bring it back to Mississippi.”

The Joy of Crafting a Dream

With eager customers lining up at the counter to order their preferred barbeque – ribs, brisket, or pulled pork – and pick their sides and dessert cobbler, Booth’s long-cherished dream became a reality. “I’ve been wanting to do this for 20 years now,” he expressed with evident joy, “And now I finally got the opportunity to do it. And it’s awesome.”

New Experience, Old Comforts

Despite a refreshing transformation, Booth’s Barbeque preserves its notable “backyard” features. The fondly frequented picnic tables, children’s play area, yard games, and walk-up windows during weekends, all contribute to shape the familiar neighborhood, backyard barbeque ambiance.

More than Just a Restaurant

Apart from its dine-in facilities, Booth’s Barbeque also accommodates catering and private events. The restaurant is strategically located at 2200 South Lamar Blvd., and operates on distinct schedules throughout the week – from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.
