The Oxford School District announced the heartbreaking news of the death of a young student, Scarleth Daniela Garcia-Mendoza, and the Lafayette County School District is mourning the loss of a dedicated staff member, Hailey Boggs.

A Tragic Accident Claims Young Life

On Friday, July 12, the vibrant life of 7-year-old Scarleth was unexpectedly cut short due to a vehicle crash in Pontotoc County. Scarleth, who was a beloved student at Bramlett Elementary School, was remembered by her school community as a bright light. The Oxford School District expressed in a heartfelt message, “If you knew Scarleth, you knew her beautiful smile and joyful laughter.” They urged everyone to keep Scarleth’s family in their thoughts and prayers during this incredibly tough time.

The accident occurred around 3:30 PM when the SUV she was riding in lost control and rolled over along Highway 6. Unfortunately, Scarleth was pronounced dead at the scene, while three other individuals sustained injuries and are currently recovering. As the community comes together to honor Scarleth’s memory, visitation services will be held on Saturday, July 20, from 4 PM to 8 PM at _Iglesia Jerusalen Maranatha Church_ in Pontotoc. She will be laid to rest in _Divino Paraiso Cemetery_ in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, a testament to her family’s roots.

Remembering Hailey Boggs

In another somber announcement, the Lafayette County School District has lost a treasured staff member, Hailey Boggs, who served as the records clerk at Lafayette Upper Elementary School. News of her passing has left a profound void in the hearts of her colleagues and the students she cared for so deeply. Known for her genuine compassion, Hailey was described by the district as someone who “always went above and beyond to ensure our students were happy and safe.” The warmth she brought to the school environment made her not just a colleague but a friend to many.

Hailey Boggs, aged 49, passed away on the same tragic day as Scarleth. The Lafayette County School District, in expressing their sorrow, noted that her warmth and kindness would be sorely missed by all. For those wishing to pay their respects, visitation will take place on Tuesday from 4 PM to 6 PM at _Coleman Funeral Home_ in Oxford, followed by a service celebrating Hailey’s life at 6 PM in the chapel.
