Chad McLarty Ends Tenure at City Water Department After a Sterling 26 Years
The Journey of Two and a Half Decades Comes to an End
Add to the annals of Oxford civic history the name of Chad McLarty, as after 26 years of stellar service, he retires from his role in the city water department. McLarty, a pillar of the community, has held multiple positions in the department, each one more significant and responsible than the last. His dedication and service were acknowledged in a formal resolution by the Oxford Board of Aldermen on a Tuesday meeting.
The Long and Winding Road
Chad McLarty first joined the city water department in April 1998 as a Water Service Technician. Commended for his readiness to learn and lead, he was soon promoted to the positions of Water Service Coordinator, Superintendent of the Water Department and eventually to the most demanding role of Superintendent of the Water and Sewer Department. Apart from serving the city, McLarty also honored the community by serving as a Lafayette County supervisor for 12 years until the close of 2023.
In Tribute and Gratitude
The resolution read during the board’s session lauds McLarty’s “calm, systematic approach to problem-solving and desire to provide the best service to the citizens of Oxford and customers of Oxford Utilities.” The accolade also noted his compassion for the people of the LOU (Lafayette-Oxford-University) community and his unyielding servant mentality that uplifted the water and sewer division of Oxford Utilities to new heights.
Looking Ahead to New Horizons
The city is poised to organize a retirement party in McLarty’s honor on June 17 at the Oxford Conference Center, marking an end to an era of dedicated service. Speaking about his journey, McLarty expressed his sentiment, saying, “It’s going to be difficult to leave. I’m not sure how to act waking up and not putting on a city uniform.” However, he is looking forward to the challenges ahead, being the owner of a private utility company, MC Construction. He plans on expanding his company and has also envisaged starting a new company TCS Jetting and Plumbing Service.
A Legacy of Unending Contribution
Chad McLarty’s departure indeed marks the end of an era. Nevertheless, his hard work, dedication and unwavering devotion to the citizens of Oxford will remain an inspiration for generations to come in the public service sector. In parting words to the board, he voiced his gratitude, stating, “I appreciate every opportunity you all have ever given me.” His trail-blazing journey is a testament to his commitment to the city’s residents and their quality of life.
